About the role:

We are looking for a technical writer or engineer with a strong understanding of innovation and a keen interest in patents and IP law to be part of our technical group and assist with VDI’s patent registration process. These responsibilities will include translation of technical innovations into clear, structured documentation for patent applications and working with internal stakeholders to identify patentable inventions and support patent filing decisions.
This position offers a unique learning experience about the AI world while providing key support to our professionals, focusing on preparing documents for patents, trademarks and software designs.

You will learn about our AI powered software and how significantly it can enhance safety, improve efficiency and transform the urban environment while developing an IP strategy aligned with our business objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work directly with our innovation team lead on the preparation and submission of technical documentation in relation to the company’s products, services and capabilities.
  • Working alongside our strategy and leadership team to provide patent-related inputs and insights to business strategy.
  • Draft and review existing and new patent applications prior to filing.
  • Ensure deadlines and due dates related to patents applications are met.
  • Thoroughly understand and evaluate new and exciting technologies.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • A degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent degree.
  • Must have strong technical writing skills.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of patents drafting and filing.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong ability to work independently and with minimal direction in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eye for detail, good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Resourceful, organized and mindful of time management.
  • Manage information confidentially and discreetly.
  • Hands on experience in programming and/or electronics is an added advantage.
  • French language will be an added advantage.
