We are looking for a Production Designer Drafter - Calgary

Reporting to the Project Management Supervisor, a successful candidate will possess the skills geared towards Electrical Control panel design, Product Development, and Integration Packaging under the SFC group.

What We Expect?

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology (CET) or equivalent education, with a focus on Power and Distribution Systems, including Renewable Energy Sources.
  • 2 years of AutoCAD experience related to layout and electrical integration. Experience with 3D software is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in creating and planning layouts and elevation drawings.
  • Skilled in developing electrical schematics and interconnection diagrams.
  • Ability to conceptualize and iterate on ideas throughout the design and drafting process, including new product development, product improvements, and standardization efforts.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant electrical safety codes (e.g., CSA, UL, CEC, etc.).
  • Key differentiator: Direct experience with variable speed drives (VFD, ASD), motor control technologies, and automation applications.
  • Hands-on mindset is essential. The ideal candidate is comfortable working closely with production teams, supporting prototyping and manufacturing efforts using basic hand tools.
  • Multitask and manage concurrent assignments, with the ability to shift focus and reprioritize as needed. Strong documentation, note-keeping, and task tracking are essential.
  • Work independently and maintain momentum to meet deadlines and project milestones.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Familiarity with ERP is considered a strong asset.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed custom integration drawings for key product lines, including:

- ABB Variable Frequency Drives and associated power systems

- EFOY fuel cell products and accessories, including solar applications

- Schneider Electric RTUs and telemetry packaging

- Additional product lines as required

  • Design systems and select components in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines and applicable standards (CSA, CEC, UL) to meet both general industrial and hazardous area requirements.
  • Develop enclosure and cabinet drawings, including details on knockouts, cutouts, and punch requirements. This includes the proper selection of drill/tap hole sizes, mounting studs, and necessary tooling.
  • Specify interconnection of equipment, including cable sizing, cable schedules, and wiring methods. This covers conductor ampacity calculations, lug/crimp types, termination methods, and torque specifications.
  • Design equipment layouts with attention to physical and electrical spacing on mounting panels or within control systems, ensuring proper spatial planning and compliance with clearance and safety standards.
  • Evaluate and approve part substitutions in response to supply chain challenges.
  • Create and release work orders through ERP systems to support production and accounting teams, ensuring efficient workflow and alignment with project timelines.
  • Coordinate with project management to support successful order execution and fulfill project-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with the drafting team to issue drawings at various project stages—including Issued for Approval (IFA), Issued for Construction (IFC), fabrication, and as-built documentation—while ensuring that all revisions are accurately tracked and effectively communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain drawing standards and templates to support product standardization and process efficiency.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with cross-functional teams, including shop floor personnel, drafting colleagues, product experts, R&D design teams, and external vendors and contractors, to support seamless project execution and alignment.
