Overview

Seeking a reliable, compassionate Personal Care Attendant (PCA) to provide daily assistance to a 35-year-old male with C5 quadriplegia. The ideal candidate will support activities of daily living, mobility, and independent living while maintaining professionalism, respect, and confidentiality. Specific training for the daily routine and needs will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Assist client with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene and mobility support
  • Assist with bowel and bladder routines (catheter care)
  • Provide safe transfers and positioning (bed, wheelchair, shower chair, etc.)
  • Provide patient care including medication administration
  • Prepare meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding when necessary
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning, laundry, vaccuming, mopping, emptying and loading dishwasher, wiping down mirrors and taps, cleaning toilet and shower and maintaining a safe environment
  • Maintain medical supplies inventory and a list of supplies that need to be ordered.
  • Accompany client to appointments or outings when required
  • Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in home care, working with individuals with spinal cord injuries or physical disabilities preferred
  • Have satisfaction in keeping things tidy and clean with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of working with people with disabilities, and care best practices
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical tasks safely
  • Strong caregiving skills with a compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively
  • Responsible and reliable candidate
  • Ability to complete routine tasks working with or without supervision
  • Ability to take direction well
  • Well co-ordinated and physically capable to assist with sliding board transfers
  • Certification in medication administration or caregiving is a plus but not required
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including days, evenings, or weekends as needed
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
