Job Title: Junior Screen-printing Operator
Location: Smithers, BC
Reports to: Senior Screen-printing Operator/Production Manager
Job Type: Full-time

Job Summary:
The Junior Screen-printing Operator will assist the Senior Screen-printing Operator/Production Manager with the setup, operation, and maintenance of screen-printing equipment. This role is ideal for someone eager to learn the technical aspects of screen-printing while working in a fast-paced production environment. The Junior Screen-printing Operator will handle basic tasks such as preparing materials, loading machines, and conducting quality checks under the guidance of senior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Support: Work closely with the Senior Screen-printing Operator/Production Manager to ensure production schedules are met and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintenance Support: Help maintain a clean and organized workspace and assist with routine machine cleaning and upkeep, including the use of appropriate solvents, cleaning agents, and tools to remove ink residue, maintain screens, and ensure equipment operates efficiently. Regularly inspect and clean squeegees, screens, and other components.
  • Material and Ink Preparation: Prepare garments, including loading items onto the machine and ensuring proper alignment. Assist with ink preparation, including organizing ink colors and ensuring sufficient ink is available for production runs.
  • Basic Machine Operation and Troubleshooting: Operate screen printing machines under supervision, focusing on accurate and timely production. Assist with resolving minor machine issues, such as screen misalignment or ink inconsistencies, as instructed by senior staff.
  • Quality Control: Inspect printed products for alignment, ink coverage, and quality, reporting any issues to the Senior Screen-printing Operator/Production Manager.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of completed work, production schedules and materials used.
  • Health & Safety: Communicate health and safety concerns to the Sr. Screen-printing Operator/Production Manager as needed and work with them to resolve concerns proactively.
  • Learning and Development: Participate in on-the-job training to gain a deeper understanding of screen-printing techniques, equipment maintenance, and production standards.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Experience in a fast-paced production environment, with hands-on machine operation and maintenance. Ability to meet tight deadlines is essential. Screen-printing or similar experience is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks, as well as lift and move materials up to 25lbs as needed.
  • Willingness to Learn: Strong interest in learning screen-printing techniques and equipment operation.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to handle repetitive tasks with care and precision.
  • Team Player: Ability to follow directions and work well in a team setting, particularly with senior operators and supervisors.

Work Environment:

  • Busy production environment with frequent use of screen-printing machinery and computers.
  • Requires preparation, washing, and cleanup of equipment and workspaces, including the use of solvents, cleaners, and other chemical agents. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used to ensure safety during these tasks.
  • Involves working with various textiles and materials, that require attention to detail and cleanliness.
  • Collaboration with the Senior Screen-printing Operator/Production Manager and other team members.

Schedule:

  • Full Time Position – Monday – Friday
  • Overtime may be available based on production demand.

Smokescreen Graphics & Embroidery is a busy production-based shop supplying northern BC with custom clothing, uniforms, jerseys, workwear, and promotional products. We have a full in-house production facility in Smithers where our team works with a diverse customer base from barber shops and summer camps to international corporations.
