Who We Are

Capilano Highway Services Company (CHSC) is a highway maintenance and construction company with locations in Sechelt, Powell River, Texada, and West Vancouver. Together with our partner companies, we operate and maintain over 1,000 kilometers of some of the South Coast’s most critical traffic corridors, including the Sunshine Coast Highway, Golden Ears Way in Langley and Maple Ridge, the Trans-Canada Highway from Vancouver to West Vancouver, and the Sea to Sky Highway from Horseshoe Bay up to Duffey Lake in Pemberton. Our clients vary from small private clients to large government bodies such as the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, creating a range of interesting projects with diverse requirements and specifications.

Job Summary

We are looking for experienced individuals with a proven background in equipment operation and general labour to support our operations. You will operate under the leadership of the road foreman for the service area and will be required to complete various tasks to ensure that operational requirements are met. It is essential for you to be able to work in all weather conditions, year-round.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and operating light and heavy maintenance equipment such as patrol trucks, loaders, plows, backhoes, tractors, etc.
  • Performing required preventative and routine equipment maintenance, which includes but is not limited to, cleaning/washing the interior and exterior of equipment, changing plow blades, minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment and refueling equipment after use.
  • Undertaking any and all job duties assigned and pertaining to the operations of Capilano Highway Services.
  • Completing all required paperwork including driver inspection documents, vehicle safety checks, timesheets, reports and other operational documents, as required.
  • Understanding of the importance of good public and employee relations.
  • Following instructions intelligently, accurately and promptly.
  • Strict adherence to the traffic control and management duties as required by the MoTT Traffic Management manual.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven equipment operation (5+ years) and general labour experience. Experience in highway maintenance and/or road building/utility construction is an asset.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License.
  • Must reside in Sechelt or in the close surrounding area on the Lower Sunshine Coast.
  • Willingness to travel to various jobsites and work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work shift work as this role involves afternoon or night work at times to meet operational requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physically able to meet all job requirements and perform satisfactorily all highway maintenance and emergency assignments in a manner that promotes cost effective operations, staff co-operation and working in a safe and environmentally friendly manner at all times.
