About Select Wines

Founded in 1982, Select Wines has become one of Canada's leading premium wine agencies, representing many of the world's most respected family-owned wineries and fine wine estates. With national operations across Canada, we specialize in building brands, creating demand, and delivering exceptional execution for our supplier partners.

We are seeking an experienced wine professional to lead a portfolio of internationally recognized fine wine producers and drive their growth across the Canadian market.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the National Portfolio Manager is responsible for the strategic management and commercial performance of a portfolio of premium and luxury wine suppliers.

Acting as the primary liaison between our winery partners and the Canadian market, this individual will develop business plans, manage supplier relationships, identify growth opportunities, and coordinate national sales and marketing initiatives. This role requires strong industry knowledge, commercial acumen, and a deep passion for fine wine.

Supplier Management & Business Planning

  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned international winery partners.
  • Develop annual business plans, forecasts, budgets, and growth strategies.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews and annual planning sessions.
  • Build strong relationships with winery ownership, export directors, and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate winery visits, market tours, customer meetings, and educational initiatives.
  • Represent supplier interests internally while ensuring alignment with Select Wines' strategic priorities.

Commercial Strategy

  • Analyze sales performance, pricing, inventory, distribution, and market trends.
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve distribution quality, and grow market share.
  • Support pricing strategies, allocation planning, inventory management, and release forecasting.
  • Lead allocation planning and negotiations with supplier partners to maximize market opportunity while protecting long-term brand equity.
  • Manage annual allocations, special releases, and limited-production offerings across the Canadian market.
  • Prepare supplier reports, forecasts, presentations, and performance updates.
  • Support liquor board initiatives, tenders, registrations, and key customer presentations.

Portfolio Development

  • Champion the growth of premium and luxury wine brands across Canada.
  • Partner with Sales, Key Accounts, and Marketing teams to execute supplier priorities.
  • Support trade events, educational programs, winemaker visits, and customer engagement initiatives.
  • Develop compelling selling stories, market insights, and strategic recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for portfolio expansion, innovation, and long-term growth.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Customer Service teams.
  • Ensure effective execution of supplier strategies and national initiatives.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and investment planning processes.
  • Participate in strategic projects and broader portfolio development opportunities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of wine industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of international fine wine regions, producers, classifications, and market dynamics.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships, portfolios, allocations, or commercial business plans.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Formal wine education and industry certifications are considered assets.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is preferred. Spanish, French, Italian, and other languages commonly spoken in leading fine wine regions are considered strong assets.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
