Full job description

Port Credit Yacht Club is a vibrant, year-round waterfront community, welcoming for boaters and non-boaters alike. With a rich calendar of on-water activities, exceptional dining, and engaging social events for all ages, PCYC offers a meaningful way to spend time on the lake.

The club seeks an experienced accounting professional who can quickly understand the dynamic environment of clubs. The club desires an effective communicator to the management team and finance committee. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the financial reporting, government requirements, payroll reviews, budgeting and capital planning oversight. This is a great opportunity for the new Controller to be a key contributor in reshaping and modernizing the financial reporting structures at the club.

Founded in 1936, Port Credit Yacht Club has been a cornerstone of sailing and waterfront life on Lake Ontario for nearly a century. PCYC’s traditions are shaped not just by racing and cruising, but by the friendships, mentorship, and shared experiences that keep members coming back year after year.

Key Responsibilities

The Controller will report directly with the General Manager but also provides support to the Club’s Finance Committee with all relevant information of the day-to-day operations as well as capital planning and budgets.

It is expected that the successful candidate be an analytical thinker who will be able to assist each department head with proactive financial analysis and problem solving.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports to the club’s management team, finance committee and board.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the club and its various departments, including revenue and expense forecasting.
  • Analyze financial performance to identify areas for improvement and recommend strategies to increase profitability.
  • Monitor and manage the club's cash flow, ensuring financial stability and maximizing returns on short-term investments.
  • Identify financial risks, and recommend strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Assist the club's management team in implementing the strategic plan and exploring new revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Handle matters related to the club's insurance policies and other legal issues.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, be a proven collaborator, and relationship builder, and will be action and results oriented.

· An innovative and strategic thinker with strong business acumen and passion for continuous improvement, cost management and revenue generation.

· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, skilled in financial analysis and reporting: data manipulation, analytics, and auditing.

· Able to display sound judgement and make complex decisions. Organized, detailed and able to provide timely and informed responses to members.

· Familiar with management of investments

Desired Qualifications

  • A post-secondary education in finance management. Ideally holding an accreditation in finance management
  • Experience at private clubs or hospitality is an asset
