Job Summary

The Chair of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality instruction and strong student outcomes across all health information program. The Chair of HIM administers the program in compliance with all accrediting standards and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate curriculum and courseware with the HIM program faculty: manage syllabus revisions and approvals and maintain historical records; recommend updates to curriculum, texts, and supplies for approval; communicate approved changes to faculty, the Director of Centre for Teaching and Learning, and the Registrar;
  • Responsible for oversight of faculty recruitment: Manage hiring, review current license for restrictions, orientation, assignment, evaluation, training, professional development, and management of faculty.
  • Responsible for maintaining an active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA), including completion of the required 36 CPE credits every three (3) years to ensure compliance with CHIMA requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring all faculty maintain active membership with CHIMA and complete the required 36 CPE credits every three years.
  • Responsible for overseeing the training of faculty: Coordinate training in all aspects of academic operations in program area, academic policies and procedures and adherence to institutional accreditor requirements and programmatic, if applicable.
  • Develop and maintain program certifications: Ensure adherence to requirements to enable graduates to obtain additional credentialing. Manage academic compliance with programmatic accreditor regulations.
  • Schedule classes: Collaborate with Registrar’s office for the appropriate scheduling of classes, assignment of instructors and communication to faculty.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Education and Knowledge:

  • A current CHIM certification
  • A postgraduate PhD degree with a concentration in Health Information
  • Educational preparation or experience in teaching and learning principles including curriculum development, , accreditation, and administration (essential)
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of related work experience, three (3) of which shall have been as an educator or administrator of an education program
  • Must be able to demonstrate a command of theory and practice, contemporary knowledge, and continuing study in their field
  • Must meet and maintain regulatory requirements for educational degree level and appropriate in- field experience

Pay: $110,000.00 per year
