There are currently four Contract of Employment opportunities available, these include:
  • 1.0 FTE Zone lead MOH Southeast/Southwest Corridors
  • 3.0 FTE zone MOH supporting zones/corridors in Alberta.

Role

Within the Ministry, the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) has legislated responsibilities to monitor and report on the health of Albertans, to be engaged in the development of health public policy, to make recommendations to promote and protect the health of the public and prevent disease and injury, and in the administration of the Public Health Act. In addition to public health activities (e.g. communicable disease prevention, surveillance, immunization, outbreak prevention, detection and control, health promotion and population health) the OCMOH provides leadership in promoting understanding and action on the social determinates of health and issues of inequity.

Reporting to the Zone Lead, you will function as a clinical expert in public health and preventive medicine practice and as a specialist medical consultant to other MOHs, physicians, healthcare providers and other stakeholders on patient and population public health issues. The focus of these roles includes control of communicable diseases, control of environmental and other threats to population health, respond to public health emergencies as well as promoting community health and advance health equity.

The Zone Medical Officer of Health (MOH) will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key internal and external health stakeholders. You will be expected to support on call coverage and help develop and implement public health practice and safety policies. You will lend your experience and expertise as an educator, preceptor and mentor to contribute to the improvement of public health knowledge. Your broad knowledge of principles and practices of public health include a deep understanding of general population health intervention strategies, of disease and injury prevention, communicable disease control, environmental public health, health public policy, emergency response and health impact assessment as well as an understanding of approaches to issues involving specific populations such as First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples in Alberta will support your success.

The Southeast/Southwest Zone lead MOH will additionally be responsible for managing the MOH team in that region.

Qualifications
As an accomplished Medical Doctor (MD) licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), you have successfully completed either:
  • a fellowship with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) with specialization in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, or
  • other clinical training (e.g., Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) or Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in other disciplines) with additional training in public health (e.g., Masters in Public Health) or applied public health practice satisfactory to the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Your career will include demonstrated project management, change management and stakeholder relationship skills including with department, leadership and other health agency and public audience stakeholders.

You are licensed to practice or are eligible for a license to practice in Community Medicine/Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Experience in the Alberta government or Alberta health system, or both is preferred.

Salary

$10,605.50 - $14,462.83 bi-weekly ($276,803.55 to $377,479.86 annually)
