Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic position within the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 35% time for clinical service and 65% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable).
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.- Clinical: Provide excellent patient care for patients presenting to the Stollery Emergency Department. Ensure ongoing personal medical education to ensure care is provided according to the most up-to-date evidence and guidelines.
- Education and Mentorship: Teach and mentor learners at all levels in clinical and academic settings.
- Research Contribution: Advance the division’s research portfolio, including facilitating funding opportunities, promoting academic productivity, and supporting faculty in achieving high-impact publications. Successfully compete for research funding and maintain an active, independent research program that contributes to the division’s academic strength.
- Collaboration and Engagement: Build partnerships within the university, healthcare system, and broader emergency medicine community to strengthen the division’s academic and clinical impact.
Interested applicants must have:
- MD degree (or equivalent)
- Completed residency training in Pediatrics or Emergency Medicine
- Complete subspecialty training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
- Demonstrated clinical experience caring for Pediatric Emergency patients in a busy tertiary care setting as an attending physician
- Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Considered an asset:
- Advanced research or educational training (i.e. MSc, MEd, or PhD)
- Experience and success in research, with a proven record of research achievements as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province-wide, fully integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta as well as to some residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Stollery Children’s Hospital is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta and serves a geographical area of over 500,000 km.
The successful applicant will join 12 academic PEM physicians as well as a dedicated group of about 30 clinical PEM physicians. We provide comprehensive medical and trauma care in an ED of 25 beds with a patient volume of about 60, 000 per year. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has a fully accredited Pediatric subspecialty-training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The division also has an active clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally through the Pediatric Emergency Research Canada Network, and the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Network in the US.

About WCHRI
The Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) supports researchers within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Alberta Health Services. With a focus on advancing women’s, children’s, and perinatal health, WCHRI provides extensive resources for faculty conducting research in these areas.
As a member of WCHRI, the successful candidate will have access to funding opportunities, biostatistical expertise, qualitative design support, knowledge translation resources, and clinical trials services. WCHRI also invests in research development by supporting trainees through scholarships, fellowships, and travel grants for presenting research outcomes.
