Full job description

Position summary:

Almadina is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator to join our high school team as a Physical Education and Grade 10 Social Studies Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will be passionate about promoting healthy, active lifestyles while inspiring students to develop critical thinking, citizenship, and an understanding of local and global issues through Alberta's Grade 10 Social Studies curriculum.

Core responsibilities:

  • Teach high school Physical Education courses in accordance with the Alberta curriculum.
  • Teach Grade 10 Social Studies using engaging, inquiry-based instructional practices.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that supports student success.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support school initiatives and student achievement.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, school events, and professional learning opportunities.

Curriculum delivery:

-Develop and implement age-appropriate physical education and wellness lessons aligned with the Alberta Program of Study. Topics include active living, movement skills, safety, nutrition, mental health, human growth and development, healthy relationships and financial literacy

Assessment and feedback: Evaluate and assess students’ physical movement growth, progress and performance, providing constructive feedback and guidance for development.

Extra-curricular activities: Plan and organize intramural activities and encouraging student participation and fair play.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively to integrate the P.E.W. curriculum into other subject areas and promote cross curricular learning.

Safety and well being:

Ensure the safety and well being of students during physical education classes, following established protocols.

Professional development: Ensure current pedagogical practices are in place, incorporating update techniques and strategies in teaching practice.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Alberta Physical Education and Wellness and Grade 10 Social Studies curricula.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning community.
  • Previous high school teaching experience is considered an asset.
