Full job description

Creative Director, YouTube

We're a fast-growing lawn care company scaling from 6 cities to 10+ across Western Canada. We're building a YouTube channel documenting the entire journey, from $3M to $10M+ in revenue, and we need someone who lives and breathes YouTube.

Our co-founder is the on-camera talent. You're the person behind the lens and behind the edit. You're always filming, always capturing moments, always thinking "that would make a great clip." You're not just an editor who sits at a desk waiting for footage to land in your inbox. You're in the office, on job sites, at team events, camera in hand, finding the content that other people walk right past.

If you're the kind of person your friends tell to put the camera away, we want to talk to you.

What you'll own:

Video Production and Editing:

  • Edit weekly long-form videos (10-20 minutes) from raw footage filmed by our co-founder and footage you capture yourself
  • Turn messy, unscripted raw footage into compelling stories with tight pacing, clean audio, and professional polish
  • Capture B-roll, behind-the-scenes moments, funny office clips, and anything that makes great content
  • You are always filming. Team meetings, customer calls, office culture, truck rides, branch visits, milestones, celebrations. You have an eye for the moments nobody else notices
  • You're comfortable being the person who always has the camera out and you don't apologize for it

Thumbnails and Graphic Design:

  • This is one of the most critical parts of the job. A great video with a bad thumbnail gets zero clicks
  • Design thumbnails that stop the scroll using strong contrast, readable text at small sizes, expressive faces, and curiosity gaps
  • Build and maintain the channel's visual identity including intros, outros, lower thirds, and motion graphics
  • Create all branded graphics and visual assets for the channel

YouTube Strategy and Growth:

  • Write titles and descriptions optimized for search and discovery
  • Manage the upload schedule and track performance metrics like click-through rate, average view duration, and subscriber growth
  • Pitch content ideas based on what's happening in the business that week
  • Study what's working on similar channels and bring new ideas to the table
  • Cut 3-5 short-form clips per week from the long-form content for YouTube Shorts

Content Recirculation:

  • Some of the best YouTube content will be repurposed and shared across our Instagram and Facebook channels. While YouTube is the primary focus and where you'll spend the majority of your time, you should be cutting and formatting content in a way that translates well to short-form platforms when the opportunity is there
  • This is not a social media management role. It's about making sure the great content you produce for YouTube doesn't die on one platform

Who you are:

  • You're obsessed with YouTube. You watch videos and think about the editing, the pacing, the thumbnail, the hook. You study what works and why. This isn't just a job for you, it's what you'd be doing anyway.
  • You're extraverted and energetic. You're not shy about putting a camera in someone's face. You make people comfortable on camera because your energy is contagious. You walk into a room and immediately see the content opportunity.
  • You have a high standard for quality. You notice when the audio is slightly off, when a cut is half a second too slow, when the color grading doesn't match, when a thumbnail font is hard to read. You're not shipping anything you wouldn't be proud to put your name on.
  • You have a passion for lawn care, outdoor work, or the trades. You don't need to be an expert, but if you genuinely think a before and after weed transformation is satisfying and a clean striped lawn is beautiful, you'll fit right in. Passion for the industry shows in the content.
  • You can edit fast without sacrificing quality. A polished 10-15 minute video from raw footage should take you 2-3 days, not a week.
  • You're a self-starter. You don't wait for someone to tell you what to film or when to post. You see the opportunity, you grab the camera, you make it happen.
  • You understand the YouTube algorithm. You know what click-through rate means, you know why retention matters, you know how to structure a video so people don't click away in the first 10 seconds.

Technical requirements:

  • Proficient in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut for long-form editing
  • Strong graphic design skills in Photoshop, Canva Pro, or Figma for thumbnails and channel branding
  • Motion graphics and animation capabilities (After Effects or similar) for intros, outros, and lower thirds
  • Comfortable shooting on iPhone, mirrorless camera, or both
  • Clean audio capture and editing
  • Understanding of YouTube SEO, analytics, and growth strategy

Nice to have:

  • Experience growing a YouTube channel (show us the analytics if you have them)
  • A personal YouTube channel or content you create on your own time
  • Experience in the trades, home services, or small business space
  • Photography skills

What this role is not:

  • You're not a social media manager running Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok day to day. YouTube is the focus
  • You're not sitting at a desk editing in isolation. You're embedded in the team, always capturing
  • You're not doing print materials, corporate presentations, or general marketing

Compensation and perks:

  • $60,000 to $80,000 depending on experience and portfolio quality
  • Benefits after 30 days
  • Creative ownership of a YouTube channel from day one
  • You're building something from scratch with a company that's actually growing fast
  • In-office at our Calgary, AB headquarters (this role cannot be remote, you need to be where the content is)

How to apply:

  • Send your resume along with a portfolio or examples of your best YouTube edits, thumbnails, and graphic design work
  • If you've grown a channel or have your own content, we'd love to see it

Pay: $20.00-$35.00 per hour

Application question(s):

  • Have you edited for a YouTube channel before? If yes, drop the channel link and tell us how many videos you produced, what your role was, and what the channel's growth looked like while you were involved. If no, tell us what experience you have that's closest to this.
  • What are 2-3 YouTube channels you watch regularly and what do you love about how their content is produced? Be specific about the editing, the visuals, the pacing, or the storytelling, not just the topics.
  • What type of content gets you most excited to produce? Long-form documentary style, fast-paced vlogs, cinematic B-roll, funny moments and personality-driven clips, educational how-tos, or something else? Tell us why.

  • Calgary, AB T2E 2M7 (required)
