SJR is an independent co-educational Kindergarten to Grade 12 university-preparatory day school that prepares students for university and the challenges of the world beyond. We invite applications for the following position: Senior Communications Officer

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Communications Officer is a collaborative and highly skilled communications professional who will be responsible for:

Content Development and Storytelling:

· Researching, writing, editing, and coordinating content for a variety of School publications such as the School website, e-newsletter, and annual report.

· Identifying and developing stories that showcase student achievement, faculty excellence, alumni success, and community impact.

· Translating complex information into clear, engaging, audience-appropriate content.

· Maintaining strong editorial standards, ensuring communications are accurate, timely, accessible, and aligned with the School’s mission, vision, values, and voice.

Communications and Brand Management:

· Supporting the development and implementation of communications plans that advance institutional priorities and support consistent messaging across internal and external audiences.

· Assisting with issues management by helping prepare timely, accurate, and sensitive communications for key audiences.

Digital Communications and Social Media

· Developing and implementing social media strategies, content calendars, and platform-specific content that builds engagement and reflects SJR’s brand and values.

· Supporting the School’s bi-weekly e-news, multimedia storytelling, photography/video coordination, and other digital communications initiatives.

· Monitoring digital engagement, social media activity and website performance to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.

· Applying best practices in accessibility, search engine optimization, digital usability, and audience-focused content development.

Project Management, Analytics, and Continuous Improvement

· Coordinating communications projects from concept to completion, including timelines, approvals, deliverables, and stakeholder input.

· Tracking communications outcomes and preparing reports with recommendations for the Director of Marketing and Communications.

· Managing multiple priorities and deadlines while exercising sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or a creative communications diploma. They will have five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in communications, ideally within an educational, independent school, advancement, or non-profit setting. Proficiency with content management systems such as AMAIS and Microsoft SharePoint is preferred. Experience with social media management tools, email platforms such as Constant Contact, Google Analytics, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud is also preferred. Understanding of the Blackbaud platform and familiarity with mySchoolApp would be considered an asset.
