City of Langford

Communications and Economic Development Assistant

Would you like to be part of a dynamic, fast-paced, award-winning local government organization? The City of Langford is seeking a Communications and Economic Development Assistant with strong, hands-on experience in social media content creation, graphic design, and website content management to support the day-to-day work of our Communications and Economic Development department.

This role is well suited to a creative, digitally savvy self-starter who can take ideas from concept to execution. You will support a wide range of initiatives including special events, arts and culture, public engagement, tourism, and economic development by creating compelling visual and written content, managing web pages, and helping bring City projects to life across digital platforms.

The successful candidate has a demonstrated ability to plan, create, and implement social media content, manage and update website content using WordPress, and produce high-quality visual materials such as social media graphics, event posters, and promotional assets. You are organized, adaptable, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a collaborative team environment. You take initiative, jump in where needed, and bring both professionalism and creativity to your work.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys blending creativity with purpose-driven public communication and wants to contribute to a growing, engaged community.

Qualifications for this position include:
  • High school graduation, with courses in business administration, marketing, tourism, public relations or communications and two (2) years’ related experience working directly with social media platforms, ideally in a local government environment (or an equivalent combination)
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ licence (Class 5)
  • Advanced working knowledge of WordPress, including editing pages and managing content
  • Experience using Canva, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Photography or videography experience for social media an asset
  • Strong design skills with demonstrated experience creating social media assets and event posters or related materials
  • Excellent writing skills, particularly for social media and short-form digital content
  • Experience with graphic design (InDesign, Publisher, Illustrator, WordPress, Photoshop) is an asset
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • A team player with a strong work ethic and a flexible, curious mindset
  • A sense of humour, with the ability to take your work seriously but not yourself

For full details on responsibilities and qualifications, please refer to the job description on our website (www.langford.ca/careers). The salary range offered for this regular, full-time position is $38.09 to $42.32 per hour (2026 rates) plus an excellent benefits package including one of Canada’s top pension plans, and a 35-hour modified workweek schedule with flex days.
