Studio Photographer

Position: Professional Studio Photographer

Company: Vancouver Creative Studios
Location: Kitsilano, Vancouver, or surrounding areas
Job Type: Part-time / Contract / On-call
Work Setting: Private studio photography sessions

About Vancouver Creative Studios

Vancouver Creative Studios is looking for a skilled, reliable, and creative professional photographer to host private studio photography sessions for our clients.

We offer studio sessions for portraits, birthdays, couples, families, personal branding, creative shoots, social media content, and special occasions. We are looking for someone local to Kitsilano or nearby Vancouver areas who is confident working independently in a studio environment.

The ideal photographer should have strong knowledge of lighting, cameras, lenses, backdrops, props, and studio setup, and should be able to run a full photography session from start to finish without constant supervision.

Key Responsibilities

As our studio photographer, you will be responsible for:

  • Hosting private studio photography sessions independently
  • Setting up and adjusting studio lighting for different shoot styles
  • Operating professional camera equipment confidently
  • Preparing backdrops, props, and studio setups before each session
  • Directing clients with posing, angles, expressions, and creative guidance
  • Photographing individuals, couples, families, groups, and creative clients
  • Creating a comfortable, professional, and enjoyable client experience
  • Managing session timing and flow from start to finish
  • Capturing high-quality images for digital delivery and editing
  • Organizing and transferring photo files after each session
  • Completing basic photo edits when required
  • Preparing selected images for advanced editing when needed
  • Keeping the studio clean, organized, and ready for the next booking

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Experience in studio photography or professional photography
  • Strong knowledge of lighting, cameras, lenses, and studio equipment
  • Ability to use studio lights, softboxes, reflectors, backdrops, and props
  • Confidence working independently as the lead photographer during sessions
  • Strong communication and client-direction skills
  • Experience posing clients for portraits, couples, groups, lifestyle, or branding shoots
  • Basic photo editing knowledge
  • Good understanding of composition, exposure, color, and framing
  • Reliable availability for scheduled bookings
  • Professional attitude and strong attention to detail
  • Must be local to Kitsilano, Vancouver, or surrounding areas

Additional Assets

It would be a strong asset if the photographer can also help create content for Vancouver Creative Studios, such as:

  • Behind-the-scenes content
  • Social media reels and short videos
  • Promotional photos and videos for the studio
  • Before-and-after editing content
  • Studio setup content
  • Client experience content
  • Creative content ideas to help promote the studio

Experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or YouTube Shorts is considered a bonus.

Lead & Revenue Generation Bonus

Photographers who help bring in new clients, leads, bookings, partnerships, or revenue for Vancouver Creative Studios may be eligible for commission or performance-based bonuses.

This may include:

  • Bringing in new photography clients
  • Referring customers to the studio
  • Helping generate leads through content
  • Promoting studio packages on social media
  • Helping secure brand, influencer, or business bookings
  • Supporting revenue growth through creative marketing ideas

Commission details will be discussed based on experience, contribution, and confirmed bookings.

Preferred Qualifications

These are not required, but would be a bonus:

  • Own professional camera gear
  • Experience with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One, or similar editing software
  • Experience with portrait, fashion, branding, birthday, family, or creative photography
  • Comfortable working with different client personalities and creative ideas
  • Experience creating social media content
  • Ability to help recommend poses, props, backdrops, and shoot concepts
  • Interest in helping grow the studio through content and client referrals

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience and bookings.

Possible pay structure may include:

  • Paid per session
  • Hourly rate
  • Commission per booking
  • Bonus for lead generation
  • Bonus for revenue-generating clients
  • Combination of base pay plus performance commission

Final pay structure will be discussed during the interview.
