HOURS OF WORK:

The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Switchboard Operator processes emergency and non-emergency call centre communications such as in-coming telephone calls, on-call physician locating, monitoring of fire alarms and emergency code dispatch.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Grade 12 Diploma and 911 Emergency and Call Centre Communications Diploma required or, equivalent education and work experience may be considered
    • Related experience may include but is not limited to: Emergency Services Call Centre, 911 Communications, or other dispatch/call centre experience handling emergency situations
  • Previous demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced Switchboard or relevant Call-Centre environment is required or, two years of relevant hospital experience required
  • Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Excel,Word, and Sharepoint required
  • Experience working with the public would be an asset
  • Recent Switchboard Experience in the last 12 months preferred
  • Basic Emergency Management Certificate
  • Emergency Management Certificate/Diploma/Degree

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Ability to remain calm during emergency situations and carefully follow code procedures.
  • Ability to maintain composure and demonstrate patience in stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, multi-task and provide excellent customer service are skills.
  • Ability to type with accuracy, at a minimum speed of 25-30 words per minute.
  • Ability to reconcile and record information (including financial information) with accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and possess initiative to make decisions based on existing Health Centre policies and procedures.
  • Good verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism within the work environment
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and follow privacy regulations.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Ability to work overtime (timing for breaks and shift extensions may be dependent on relief coverage being available)
