About the job
The Divisional Delivery Branch delivers a diverse portfolio of programs spanning strategic emergency management, aggregate authorizations, petroleum and gas initiatives, contaminated site rehabilitation, waste disposal oversight and more.This varied portfolio offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of financial processes, including transfer payments, capital spending and contaminated sites liabilities. You will expand your financial knowledge while helping the branch manage public resources responsibly.
As part of the Hazard Preparedness and Planning Section, you will join a collaborative team that supports emergency management planning, resource deployment and branch-wide business functions, including financial oversight and administration.
You will:
- provide financial planning and analytical services for the branch regarding budgets and financial analysis
- provide financial reporting and analysis to support operational planning and financial management activities
- contribute to the development and implementation of effective procedures, systems, and processes
- provide advice, guidance and support to various staff on financial accounting, reporting and procurement
What you bring to the team
Financial knowledge
You have:- demonstrated knowledge of resources allocation, budget and financial forecasting, estimate planning
- proven knowledge and experience with accounting principles and program evaluation practices to conduct and prepare financial analysis
- advanced working knowledge of integrated financial control systems to monitor budget and expenditures, identify and explain variances, and conduct financial analysis
- knowledge of procurement policies and guidelines to support divisional, regional and district clients
Analytical and problem-solving skills
You have:- demonstrated analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills to analyze financial information in order to establish and monitor status of budget, identify and resolve discrepancies, problems or concerns
- initiative and sound analytical skills to evaluate the effectiveness of financial management and control systems, processes and procedures
- the ability to effectively extract and manipulate data from financial reporting systems to meet a variety of analytical and planning needs
Communication and interpersonal skills
You have:- proven oral communication and interpersonal skills to provide explanations and advice on procurement and financial reporting requirements
- communication skills to make presentations, explain accounting and financial processes and issues, and to prepare reports
- proficiency with processing databases, electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet applications and internet
- the ability to work in a team environment with a strong commitment to customer service
Organizational skills
- you have organizational and coordination skills to determine work priorities and meet deadlines
