Overview:

The Personal/Home Support Worker provides personal support services in the hospice with the framework of Carefor policies, procedures, standards and quality & risk management. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to meet the needs of clients to attain an optimal level of comfort and well being.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the activities of daily living including eating, dressing, transferring, grooming, and bathing
  • Provide laundering of clothes and linens
  • Provide light cleaning
  • Provide respite care
  • Provide light meal preparation
  • Provide cognitive, social, and compassionate support
  • Document reports for clients on their plan of care and any changes in the behaviour of daily routines
  • Other related duties and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and Carefor policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Ontario Certified Personal Support Worker Certificate and/or National Association of Career Colleges (NAC) Certificate, or, Foreign Trained BScN, BScN Nursing Student, or second year RPN student.
  • Clear vulnerable Sector check (obtained within previous six months)
  • Negative tuberculosis test
  • Household management experience
  • Experience working with elderly/vulnerable sector
  • Good communication in English, both written and verbal
  • Bilingualism is an asset (English and French)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to adjust to working with people of different backgrounds and abilities.
  • Previous housekeeping experience is an asset
  • Experience with Palliative Care is considered an asset
  • First Aid CPR is considered an asset
