Role Responsibilities

We are seeking compassionate Health Care Aides. Working in a 24/7 home setting, this position supports individuals living in homes to achieve optimal personal fulfillment, quality of life, and community acceptance.

The role assists people with intellectual disabilities, and sometimes other complex needs, to meet their interests and daily needs; contribute to the operation of their home; build and maintain relationships; participate in community and recreational activities; and promote health and well-being.

The position respects each person’s individuality and treats all with dignity. It reports to the Home Coordinator/Supervisor and follows the Individual’s Support Plans, implementing activities, behavioural strategies, and special initiatives unique to each resident, while working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement Standards:

Including High school diploma and one year of experience working in group living, residential care, or related care setting.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

• Health Care Aide certification is required. Transitional practice permits will not be accepted.
• Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Nursing or Health Care Aide).
• Current, up-to-date Canadian First Aid Certification is highly recommended.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience in the following:

• In supportive living, continuing care, or group home environments.
• working with individuals with disabilities or vulnerable populations.
• personal care and mobility assistance, including the safe use of lifts, wheelchairs, and transfer techniques.
• electronic documentation and electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) systems.

Notes

• Hours of work are 38.75 hours weekly.
• Location: Rosecrest, Edmonton and Residential and Support Services Edmonton
• This competition will be used to fill 2 Permanent positions, 2 Temporary positions (up to 18 months) and casual/wage opportunities.
• These positions will require lifting and moving of individuals and equipment.
• The successful candidate(s) must be able to work variety of shifts including days, afternoons, awake overnights, weekends and called in on short notice if needed.
• Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. A current work visa is required.

Security Screening Requirements:

• Final candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC), including a Vulnerable Sector Check, and an Intervention Record Check (IRC). Due to processing times, applicants invited for an interview are encouraged to request a Level 1 CRC, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, from their local RCMP or police service before the interview. The CRC only needs to be submitted upon request. All current Government of Alberta employees must have a current CRC, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, on file. If one is not on file, a new check must be provided.
• Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
