Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide in-home infusions and various support tasks for an adult patient, as she battles various chronic illnesses. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, particularly in infusion therapy/IV administration, and will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care regarding infusion treatments. This role is centered around individualized one-to-one care and is very flexible and boasts a slower pace. It also includes a transportation component, to assist patient to and from medical appointments, errands, etc. The ideal candidate would be looking for a fun, flexible, and ever-evolving work environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Administer intravenous (IV) medication in-home, as prescribed by the overseeing physician.
  • Monitor patient during infusion treatments, assessing overall condition.
  • Maintain a detailed and organized record of infusions and medical support tasks accomplished.
  • Assist patient with any tasks in the home as needed (meal support, assistance with light housekeeping tasks that are no longer possible due to illness, patient care during flare-ups of symptoms/times of illness, etc.)
  • Provide vehicular transportation to medical appointments, groceries, errands, and miscellaneous tasks.
  • Must have a well-maintained vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain professional liability insurance from the Canadian Nurse’s Protective Society (CNPS) or through the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA.)
  • Due to the patient being immunocompromised, must be willing to wear mask and gloves in order to uphold high standards of cleanliness and sanitization.
  • Must be willing to adhere to a fragrance free, pet free and smoke free environment.
  • This is a Calgary based, part-time role and compensation rate will be discussed based on experience.

Required/Relevant Experience

  • Successful completion of the RN or LPN programs and minimum 5 years of work experience in the respective fields is required.
  • Previous experience in acute care settings is required.
  • High levels of proficiency/comfort with IV insertion and administration is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to infusion therapy is essential.
  • Experience in pain management techniques is a plus.
  • A background in home care or assisted living environments will be beneficial for this role.
  • The ideal candidate is detail oriented, loves to take initiative to complete tasks, flexible due to unpredictability of medical conditions and various life circumstances, and possesses strong communication skills.
  • A background check/security clearance must be completed as the final step in the recruitment process.

If this sounds like a great fit for you, please submit your resume. We will be looking to fill this role fairly quickly, so we are aiming to begin interviews very soon. Your expertise, compassion and time will make a significant difference to our patient. Thank you for your interest.
