Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Awake Night Residential Child & Youth Support Worker to support the safety and well-being of our residents in a group home setting throughout the night

About Our Operation:

At OIB Child and Youth Services we believe that all young people should have the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing environment. We provide comprehensive care in a residential setting for children aged 6-12 years. Staff at OIB provide a high level of care and support, impacting the development and well-being of the youth in our residential facilities.

Role Overview:

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations and Residence Coordinator, the Awake Night Child & Youth Residential Support Worker is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in a group home supported living setting throughout the night. This position requires the staff member to remain awake and active during all working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Between the hours of 11:00pm and 7:00am, the Awake Night Child & Youth Residential Support worker,

- Monitors residents throughout the night and attends to any medical or behavioral needs that arise.

- Provides support for activities of daily living (ADL’s) including bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, and administration of medication.

- Administers medication to residents according to established protocols.

- Ensures overnight security of the residence by locking doors and windows and conducting rounds to ensure residents are safe.

- Responds to emergencies, crises, or high-risk behaviors according to established agency policies and procedures.

- Supports residents with morning routines/breakfast preparation at the end of the shift.

- Assist in the general light housekeeping and maintenance of the facility.

- Maintain daily communications and emails and provide documentation such as logs, notes, and incident reports in accordance with OIB Policy and Procedures, always maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

- Engage in continuous education and training to remain current on social concerns, youth issues, and industry best practice.

Skills and Abilities:

- Ability to work independently in an isolated environment

- Demonstrates strong crisis intervention skills and sound judgement even under demanding conditions or circumstances.

- Employs complex behaviour management skills and techniques.

- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills aligned with program philosophy when supervisor is unavailable for consultation.

- Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.

- Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Maintains professionalism and personal boundaries in all interactions.

- Is reliable and passionate about helping youth in our community.

Education, Training and Qualifications:

The Child & Youth Residential Support Worker holds a grade 12 diploma, plus a post-secondary education in Human Services (such as Community, Family and Child Services, Mental Health, Early Childhood Education) or has an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

The Child & Youth Residential Support Worker must also maintain:

- Clear criminal and background checks

- Valid Class 5 driver's license

- Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C

- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

- Food Safe Level 1

- WHMIS

- Negative TB Test

- Basic computer literacy skills and working knowledge of such programs as Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.).

- Certification and/or experience in Trauma-Informed and Gender-Affirming care practices considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

Schedule: Awake overnights from 11:00pm to 7:00am, including weekends and holidays.

Environment: Residential group home.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform light housekeeping and respond quickly to emergencies.

Pay: $24.54-$29.00 per hour
