About Brokkr

Brokkr Mineral Resources is developing innovative technology for the mining and minerals industry. Our team combines microbiology, chemistry, engineering, and mineral processing to develop new approaches to metal extraction and recovery.

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician / Lab Operations team member to play an important role in the day-to-day operation of our growing R&D laboratory. This is a hands-on role combining laboratory work with lab operations. You will work alongside our scientists, engineers, and technicians to carry out experiments and process samples, while taking responsibility for keeping the laboratory safe, organized, well supplied, and running efficiently. As Brokkr grows, there will be opportunities to take on increasing responsibility across laboratory and pilot operations.

What You'll Do

Laboratory Operations

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and organization of the laboratory.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, purchasing, chemicals, consumables, and PPE.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, servicing, and repairs.
  • Coordinate waste disposal, contractors, and other laboratory service providers.
  • Maintain laboratory records, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Help develop practical systems and processes as the laboratory grows.
  • Help onboard and provide day-to-day guidance to interns and junior laboratory staff.
  • Work with the R&D team to ensure laboratory resources, equipment, and spaces are available when needed.

Safety

  • Help maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Conduct and document hazard and risk assessments and regular laboratory inspections.
  • Maintain safety procedures, records, and required documentation.
  • Coordinate laboratory safety orientations and annual training.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE, spill response supplies, and emergency equipment are available.
  • Identify and address laboratory safety and operational issues.

Laboratory & R&D

  • Carry out hands-on laboratory experiments and routine testing.
  • Prepare and process mineral, biological, and process samples.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and solutions.
  • Perform routine assays and analytical procedures.
  • Support microbiology, chemistry, mineral processing, and bioleaching experiments.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Support laboratory and pilot-scale experiments.
  • Record and organize experimental data and results.
  • Troubleshoot routine experimental and equipment issues.
  • Work closely with scientists and engineers to support R&D programs.

Growth into Pilot Operations

Brokkr is currently scaling from laboratory R&D toward pilot-scale operations. As the company grows, this role will have the opportunity to take on additional responsibility beyond the laboratory, supporting the setup and day-to-day operations of our pilot facility. You will work closely with the scientists, engineers, technicians, and project manager as we transition our work from laboratory to pilot scale. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to grow with the company and take on increasing responsibility for laboratory and pilot operations.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, organized, practical, and proactive. You should enjoy working in the laboratory while also being comfortable taking responsibility for the day-to-day practical operation of a lab.

A diploma, technical qualification, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience is required.

Required Experience

  • 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience
  • Experience in an R&D, industrial, environmental, microbiology, chemistry, biotechnology, mining, or similar laboratory.
  • Strong practical laboratory and sample-processing skills.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and routine laboratory procedures.
  • Good understanding of laboratory health and safety.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Experience with any of the following is an asset:

  • Microbiology or molecular biology
  • Chemistry or analytical chemistry
  • Mineral or geological sample preparation
  • Metal analysis
  • HPLC, ICP-OES/ICP-MS, spectrophotometry, or similar techniques
  • Bioleaching or hydrometallurgy
  • Laboratory inventory and purchasing
  • Equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Pilot plant or process operations

Why Join Brokkr?

Brokkr is a growing technology company working at the intersection of biotechnology, chemistry, engineering, and mining. You will work directly with a multidisciplinary R&D team across microbiology, chemistry, mineral processing, analytical testing, bioleaching, and pilot-scale development. As Brokkr grows, there will be opportunities to take on increasing responsibility across laboratory and pilot operations.
