Job Overview:

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist position reports to the Sr. HR Generalist and is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of weekly payroll for 16 payroll reporting segments. This position is also required to administer Moonfleet’s benefit programs and support the Human Resources team with administrative HR functions. The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of payroll compliance, employment legislation and general accounting principles and procedures. Duties will include payroll and benefit account maintenance, vacation accruals, reconciliations, and reports. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who is a proven team player. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and is based in Harriston, ON.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for employees using ADP payroll software
  • Administration of benefits and group RRSP plans, handling remittances, enrolments, plan changes and terminations
  • Month end reconciliation of benefit and WSIB accounts
  • Respond to inquiries from managers and employees regarding payroll, benefits and expenses in a timely manner
  • Complete accurate year-end reconciliation and annual production of T4s and other tax documents as required
  • Maintain payroll records for internal and external requirements, such as yearly audit for external auditors
  • Responsible for identifying potential improvements in payroll and control processes, ensuring that identified opportunities are implemented successfully
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations and wage increases
  • Support HR in the creation of offer letters, onboarding, reporting and other documentation as requested

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3-5 years payroll experience
  • Holds a Certified Payroll Designation through the National Payroll Institute (NPI)
  • Understanding of Employment legislation related to payroll
  • Knowledge of piecework compensation is an asset
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is critical
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation skills
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills to deal with strict deadlines
  • Proven ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • Ability to adapt quickly to demanding situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills
  • Strong aptitude for computer systems and software
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a tightly knit team and individually
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and payroll processing / HRIS software
