We are currently looking to hire our next great team member for the position of Payroll Specialist located in either Calgary, AB or Dieppe, NB. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is highly accurate, organized, confidential, and confident working with Canadian payroll, employee data, and payroll systems.

What You'll Do

As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting payroll compliance, employee data integrity, benefits administration, and payroll-related reporting across the company.

  • Process weekly Canadian payroll through ADP Workforce Now accurately, confidentially, and on schedule.
  • Validate employee hours, overtime, premiums, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, deductions, taxable benefits, and other earnings before payroll submission.
  • Review payroll registers, investigate discrepancies, and process payroll adjustments, reversals, corrections, and off-cycle items as required.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll and employment data in ADP, including new hires, terminations, transfers, compensation changes, schedules, banking details, tax information, and employee record updates.
  • Support ADP system maintenance related to payroll and time administration, including payroll rules, schedules, timekeeping settings, employee profiles, and related configuration.
  • Administer employee benefits processes, including Canada Life enrolments, terminations, coverage changes, employee updates, benefits invoice administration, and employee benefits coverage support.
  • Review and audit time and attendance records, investigate missing punches, overtime exceptions, scheduling discrepancies, and other payroll-related timekeeping issues.
  • Support payroll compliance, statutory remittances, WCB reporting, year-end reporting, payroll reconciliations, month-end accruals, journal entries, audit requirements, and employee/manager payroll inquiries.

  • You work well with Finance, Human Resources, managers, employees, and external providers while also managing independent payroll priorities.
  • You are motivated to improve payroll processes, strengthen controls, and support a growing Canadian organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent payroll experience.
  • 3-5 years of payroll processing experience with hands-on experience processing payroll in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Experience maintaining ADP Workforce Now payroll rules, schedules, time and attendance settings, employee profiles, and related configuration.
  • Experience processing multi-provincial Canadian payroll.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll practices, statutory deductions, vacation pay, taxable benefits, payroll remittances, and year-end reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and business systems used for payroll processing, reporting, reconciliations, employee data maintenance, and communication.
  • Ability to work legally in Canada.

Preferred

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or active progress toward a PCP designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Canada Life benefits administration, payroll reconciliations, month-end accruals, payroll journal entries, internal controls, and audit requirements.
