About the Program:


The Community Residential Facilities consists of 4 properties that support individuals being supervised on conditional release from an institution or a forensic psychiatric hospital. The program operates 24/7 with support staff and is guided by services being accessible and client-focused. We work from a client- centered, strengths-based perspective and use a relationship-building approach. We believe that people are experts on their own lives, and promoting positive change enables them to grow in the way they envision.


Position Summary:


The Position reports to Manager, Residential Programs

We are seeking an enthusiastic Casual Support Worker to join our dynamic team. This role involves supporting residents in a structured environment through conducting rounds, managing documentation, and maintaining facility cleanliness. It requires monitoring compliance with rules, fostering positive interactions, and addressing individual needs via action plans. Building relationships with community agencies is essential for effective client support and ensuring safety and accountability. This is an in-person role with no opportunity to work remotely.


What You'll Be Doing:


Administration (40%)

  • Conduct rounds and bed checks at irregular intervals, a minimum of two times during each shift at Manchester House, Gelling Manor, and Maxfield House.

  • Answer phones, greet the public and visitors with discretion.

  • Access and maintain/ update documentation on SharePoint.

  • Attend employees’ meetings as required.

  • Review memos of the operation of the House and keep abreast of new developments relating to the Correctional Service of Canada and the Provincial Health Services Authority.

  • Record pertinent resident information in the Duty Logbook and on the online Case Administration Management System

  • Record House maintenance and shift rounds in the Duty Logbook

  • Undertake special assignments as required by the Manager of Residential Programs and Program Coordinator

  • Conduct menial house tasks such as laundry, mopping/sweeping, organizing supply area, recycling etc.

  • Record pertinent information in the Duty Logbook and online Case Administration Management System.

  • Check resident sign in/out sheets to ensure accuracy.

  • Follow working alone (safety line) procedures for check-ins.


House Management (30%)

  • Ensure the house is not left unattended by employees and remain awake for the duration of the shift.

  • Ensure the office and House are clean and organized.

  • Initiate contact with the National Monitoring Centre, Victoria Parole Office, Victoria Forensic Clinic, and Victoria Police when necessary.

  • Advise the Manager of Residential Programs and Program Coordinator of concerns regarding House management or residents, including infractions of House rules, curfews, or policies.

  • Monitor curfew regulations and report infractions to appropriate authorities.

  • Monitor residents for substance misuse violations and breaches of conditions set by the Parole Board of Canada and/or the BC Review Board; ensure violations are recorded and reported to the Parole Officer or Forensic Case Manager.

  • Maintain a well-rounded team environment, including shift debriefing and effective communication.


Client support (20%)

  • Establish positive communication with and maintain rapport with each resident

  • Develop, implement and sustain a Resident Action and Service Plan suitable to the proposed resident, and encourage the resident's interest and participation. (in line with the internal case management framework)

  • Meet weekly (minimum) with each resident on the caseload

  • Assist with the general needs of the residents


Community Engagement (10%)

  • Maintain and facilitate working relationships with Parole Officers, Case Managers, local police


Perform other duties and projects as required and not limited to the responsibilities as mentioned.

  • The assigned percentage of job responsibilities may vary based on organizational and operational priorities.


What We’re Looking For:


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years certificate in a relevant field (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including those with mental health, addictions, and developmental disabilities.

  • Proficient in verbal and written English at a professional level.

  • Criminal Record Check and Correctional Service of Canada Enhanced Security Check.

  • Emergency First Aid certification is an asset.

  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information effectively and possess strong integrity.


Skills and Competencies:

  • The skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crises.

  • Experience in case management, including effectively managing client case notes.

  • The skills to intervene effectively in crises and Knowledge of community resources.

  • Ability to understand the dynamics of offender’s behavior and assess their needs and risks.

    Available to work overnights and weekends as per requirements.
