Job Posting: Part-Time Bookkeeper (Construction & Property Management Specialist)Job Overview

We are a professional accounting and bookkeeping firm seeking a highly capable, independent Part-Time Bookkeeper to manage the files of our clients in the construction and property management sectors. Operating in a hybrid capacity in Ottawa, you will be responsible for full-cycle bookkeeping, project job costing, and maintaining impeccable financial records that reflect our firm’s high standards of accuracy and client care.

Job Details

  • Position: Bookkeeper (Construction / Property Management Portfolio)
  • Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid)
  • Job Type: Part-Time (Monday to Friday, flexible schedule)
  • Salary: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour
  • Language Requirements: Fluent in English (written and verbal); French is a strong asset.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Client File Management: Manage full-cycle bookkeeping and daily financial transactions for our assigned client portfolio primarily using QuickBooks Online.
  • Industry-Specific Accounting: Execute detailed construction project job costing and accurately track inter-company/related-party entries.
  • Reconciliations & Analysis: Perform meticulous bank and credit card reconciliations; proactively analyze accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies before review.
  • Cycle Management: Seamlessly handle full Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P) cycles for clients to ensure timely billing and payments.
  • Compliance Filings: Prepare accurate external compliance filings, including HST and WSIB, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Client Communication: Serve as a professional representative of our firm, communicating via email and phone to gather supporting documentation from clients and their vendors.
  • Payroll & Admin: Support payroll processing and ensure all client records, invoices, and receipts are meticulously organized.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequired:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of Canadian bookkeeping and accounting experience.
  • Sector Expertise: A minimum of 3 years of experience working directly within the construction industry is a must.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with QuickBooks Online (minimum 3 years preferred) and advanced comfort with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and Word).
  • Professionalism: Strong attention to detail, exceptional accuracy, and the ability to work independently with little supervision while upholding our firm’s reputation.
  • Time Management: Proven ability to manage multiple client priorities and switch between different workflows under tight deadlines.

Assets (Nice to Have):

  • Experience handling property management bookkeeping files.
  • Software Assets: Familiarity with Sage 100, Xero, and Simply Accounting software.
