About Us:

Darby Photos is a leader in School Photography, University Graduation, and Youth Sport Photography across British Columbia. Our team of energetic, self-motivated individuals is dedicated to delivering top-tier photography services, driven by innovation and a commitment to exceeding client expectations. We are an equal opportunity employer and strive to bring out the best in all team members.

Join Darby Photos – where passion meets opportunity! As a family-based company, we've created a close-knit environment where every team member is valued. If you're looking for a dynamic and rewarding setting with like-minded individuals, explore our current job openings and start your career with us today!

Position Overview:

We are looking for energetic, outgoing individuals to join our team photographing high school graduation portraits at schools throughout North Surrey and Maple Ridge.

This position is primarily focused on afternoon and evening photography sessions. A typical shift will be approximately 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, including photography setup and takedown. Some morning and weekend shifts will also be required depending on our school schedule.

Photography experience is not required. We can teach you how to operate the equipment, pose subjects, use lighting, and take great photographs. What we cannot teach is personality.

The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys interacting with people, can make teenagers and their families feel comfortable, and brings positive energy to every session.

We offer a seasonal contract with opportunities to return for future photography seasons, subsequent school years, or potentially pursue a longer-term career with Darby Photos.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Photograph high school graduation portraits in a professional studio-style environment
  • Work alongside our experienced photography team and follow established posing, lighting, and workflow procedures.
  • Interact positively with graduating students, parents, school staff, and other members of the school community.
  • Help students feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
  • Create a fun, relaxed, and professional experience for graduating students.
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of photography equipment at each location.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and represent Darby Photos positively at every school.
  • Follow established photography and customer service standards.
  • Work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and image quality.
  • Travel reliably to assigned schools throughout North Surrey and Maple Ridge.

Requirements:

  • A true people person. You will be interacting with graduating students, parents, and school staff throughout every shift. Your ability to connect with people, make them feel comfortable, and bring out their best expressions is essential. Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable personality are a must. You will be the face of our company at every event.
  • Highly energetic and dynamic. Graduation photography can involve photographing a large number of students in a single shift. You should enjoy being on your feet, moving between subjects, and maintaining positive energy for several hours at a time.
  • Photography experience is not required. We can train you on photography. We are looking for people who are naturally good with people, eager to learn, and confident interacting with teenagers and adults.
  • Outgoing and confident. You should be comfortable starting conversations with people you have never met and helping someone feel relaxed within a matter of seconds.
  • Patient and personable. Not every student will be immediately comfortable in front of a camera. You should be able to adapt your approach and make each person feel at ease.
  • Team-oriented with a keen eye for detail. You should work well with others while paying attention to details that ensure every student receives a great experience.
  • Reliable and professional. Our photography sessions are scheduled with schools well in advance, and our clients depend on us to arrive prepared and on time.
  • A valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required. This position requires travelling to different school locations throughout North Surrey and Maple Ridge, some of which may not be easily accessible by public transit.
  • Successful candidates must reside in the BC Lower Mainland and be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Due to the nature of our work with children and minors, passing a criminal record check will be required.

Schedule:

  • Primarily afternoon and evening shifts.
  • Typical shift: approximately 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, including photography setup and takedown.
  • Some morning shifts may be required.
  • Some weekend shifts may be required.
  • Schedules will vary depending on school bookings and the graduation season.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $25–$35 per hour, dependent on experience and responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive training in portrait photography.
  • No previous photography experience required.
  • Opportunity to develop professional photography and interpersonal skills.
  • Advancement opportunities within our company.
  • Opportunities to return for future photography seasons and subsequent school years.
