About the Role

Catch a Balloon is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to provide pediatric occupational therapy interventions under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OT Reg. Ont.).

Children are referred to the OTA following an OT assessment. The Registered OT identifies the child’s needs and goals and provides the intervention plan, which is then implemented by the OTA under ongoing supervision.

Many clients may also receive services through our psychotherapy department or multidisciplinary team. The caseload may include children with Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, attention challenges, low self-confidence, motor coordination difficulties, postural concerns, sensory processing needs, and executive functioning or emotional regulation challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement individualized OT intervention plans developed by the supervising OT
  • Support fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, coordination, posture, balance, and hand function
  • Address attention, concentration, executive functioning, and task persistence
  • Implement sensory and self-regulation strategies as directed by the OT
  • Support independence, confidence, and participation in daily activities
  • Observe and document client responses and progress
  • Communicate observations, concerns, and changes to the supervising OT
  • Maintain a safe, structured, supportive, and child-centred environment
  • Collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team as required

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, including children with developmental or special needs
  • OTA/PTA education or related training is preferred
  • Related backgrounds in child development, psychology, kinesiology, behavioural sciences, education, or developmental services may be considered
  • Knowledge of child development and conditions such as Autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties
  • Strong communication, observation, documentation, and teamwork skills
  • Patient, reliable, adaptable, and comfortable following individualized clinical plans
  • Fluency in Farsi is preferred but not required

Why Join Catch a Balloon?

  • Supportive multidisciplinary pediatric environment
