Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Bakery Assistant/Cake decorator to join our team with a minimum of 1 year in a bakery setting. We specialise in Asian baking with western influences.. In this role, you will support the daily operations of our bakery, ensuring that our products are prepared, decorated, and presented to the highest standards. You will work closely with experienced bakers and contribute to creating delicious baked goods that delight our customers.

This position requires weekend availability. Part time or full time

Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of various bakery items including bread, pastries, and cakes.
  • Participate in cake masking and decorating and presentation to ensure visual appeal.
  • Prepare cake batters, fillings, and icings. Bake, level, fill, and crumb-coat cakes to ensure structural stability.
  • Shape fondant, create intricate sugar flowers, and use pastry bags for elaborate piping, borders, and personalized writing.
  • Handle food safely and maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Package baked goods for sale while ensuring proper labeling and presentation.
  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting with customers and assisting them with their orders.
  • Follow recipes accurately to maintain consistency in product quality.
  • Support inventory management by monitoring stock levels of ingredients and supplies.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow in the bakery.
  • Help monitor inventory levels, unpack deliveries, and ensure baked goods are properly displayed and restocked.
  • Strictly adhere to food-handling, health, and hygiene standards. Keep the kitchen, workstations, and storage areas clean and sanitized.
  • Remove waste
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination for detailed piping and the physical ability to stand for extended periods while lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs).

Skills

  • Proficiency in cake decorating techniques is a plus.
  • Previous restaurant or kitchen experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and cooking methods relevant to baking.
  • Strong customer service skills to enhance the customer experience.
  • Familiarity with food handling practices and food safety regulations.
  • Experience in the food industry, particularly in baking or pastry production.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also being self-motivated.
