Oakville Trafalgar Eye Centre (OTEC) is a modern, growing ophthalmology practice recognized for excellence in patient care. In 2026, OTEC was named Top Choice Award Winner for Best Ophthalmology Clinic in Oakville, reflecting the trust of our patients and the strength of our clinical team.

We provide a well-organized, patient-centred clinical environment where professionalism, teamwork, and continuous learning are valued. We are looking to add a dedicated Ophthalmic Technician who takes pride in high standards and meaningful contribution to patient care.

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician supports physicians and patients throughout the clinical visit by performing diagnostic testing, assisting with patient flow, and maintaining accurate documentation. This role is well suited to someone who values structure, accuracy, and a collaborative medical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Measure visual acuity and intraocular pressure
  • Perform slit lamp photography and fundus imaging
  • Conduct autorefraction, pachymetry, and corneal topography
  • Perform diagnostic testing including:
  • Humphrey Visual Field testing
  • OCT imaging
  • Ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging
  • Perform biometry for pre-operative patients, including A-scan and IOLMaster
  • Assist with patient flow, rooming patients, and opening charts
  • Pre-chart patient histories and assist with basic patient inquiries
  • Maintain clean and sanitized exam lanes between patients
  • Ensure exam rooms are stocked and organized at the start and end of each day
  • Support smooth clinic operations and team workflow

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent patient service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn new systems, processes, and workflows efficiently
  • Comfortable using office technology, including Google Workspace and OSCAR EMR
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in testing and documentation
  • Comfortable working with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and organized
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Open to feedback, learning, and professional growth

Qualifications

  • COA, COT, or COMT certification preferred
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in an ophthalmology or eye care setting
  • Experience in a surgical or pre-operative setting is an asset
