As the sixth largest city in BC, we are home to more than 150,000 residents. Our diverse municipality is a great place to work as it continues to grow through innovative urban design, inspiring arts, culture and recreation programs, and state-of-the-art transportation systems. About the Role
The City of Coquitlam is seeking a motivated and dependable Park Attendant to join our Landscape Services team in a regular full-time position.
As a Park Attendant, you will perform a variety of hands-on maintenance and landscaping tasks to help maintain the City's parks, boulevards, medians and other public landscapes. Duties include general parks maintenance, planting and maintaining flowers and shrubs, operating vehicles and equipment, and responding courteously to routine public inquiries about parks and their use.
The position involves physically demanding outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions and environments, including work along busy roadways and within landscaped medians. A strong commitment to safe work practices, particularly when working around traffic, vehicles and equipment, is essential.
Weekend and occasional evening work may be required to support operational needs and maintain a high standard of service across the City's parks and streetscapes.
About You / What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, demonstrates a strong work ethic and enjoys contributing to the maintenance and appearance of public spaces. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious and willing to take on a variety of tasks in a physically active outdoor environment.
You work well as part of a team, respond positively to direction and are capable of completing assigned tasks independently once expectations are established. You demonstrate initiative, adaptability and a willingness to learn new skills while maintaining a consistent standard of workmanship. Strong communication skills and a courteous, professional approach when interacting with coworkers and the public are also important to success in this role.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a completion of the tenth school grade supplemented by completion of some basic horticulture courses plus some experience in general parks maintenance or gardening work. Please note that an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. You must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (with satisfactory driving record).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in parks, landscaping, horticulture, groundskeeping, or related outdoor maintenance work
- Experience operating small equipment and power tools (e.g., trimmers, blowers, mowers, hedge trimmers)
- Basic knowledge of plant care, pruning, and seasonal landscape maintenance
- Experience working in physically demanding, team-based environments
What We Offer:
This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $36.81. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
You will have the chance to join a rapidly growing and diverse team dedicated to supporting the local community, and be able to engage in variety of learning and development opportunities. Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program.
