Job Description

Berry and Smith Trucking is an industry leading transportation provider based in Penticton, BC. We are searching for an experienced professional driver that lives in the Okanagan or Vancouver areas. This position will entail primarily driving a sleeper tractor-trailer operating throughout the Pacific Northwest region including: BC, AB, WA and OR. This is a full-time position and shifts may vary depending on work. The successful candidate must have extensive flat deck and van experience, mountain and winter driving skills, excellent customer service skills, the ability to work physically and lift a minimum of 50 pounds and have a minimum of 2 years operating commercial vehicles.

Requirements:

-Valid Class 1 license (With Air Brake Endorsement)

-Maximum of 6 points over the past 5 years, and a satisfactory review of driver’s abstract

-Valid passport and ability to work in the USA

-Be available to work differing shifts as work demands, and schedules dictate. (This position is a minimum of 5 days/week)

-Must be able to effectively communicate with the public, shippers and receivers, co-workers, dispatchers and customers and promote positive public relations

-Be able to effectively plan a workday and operate on an efficient time schedule

-Ability to fluently speak, comprehend and write the English language

-Professional driving skills: braking, backing, cornering, stopping, cornering, etc. and be able to safely drive through mountain, city and winter conditions

-Be familiar with and have the necessary skills and abilities to safely load, secure, tarp, transport, and unload, freight on flat deck trailers

-Satisfactory WCB results and physical ability to comply with all aspects of a truck driving job. (driving/loading/unloading/strapping/tarping/chaining up)

-Be willing and able to effectively complete, understand and follow established protocols the company operates with including but not limited to safety, benchmarks for fuel consumption/idling/hard braking/RPM, hazardous materials, winter driving techniques, chain up, computer, satellite, scanning, and security

-Be willing and able to drive all trucks in the fleet as assigned

-Be familiar with logbooks and electronic logs and how to properly and legally comply with hours-of-service regulations

-Compliance with company labour rules which are federally regulated

-Preparedness to work on a six-month probationary period

-Satisfactory results from a Nurses Medical Examination

-Compliance with Company Drug and Alcohol Policy

-Ability to obtain a FAST card for cross-border work if not already held
