PLC Programmer / Automation Specialist

About the Role

As a PLC Programmer / Automation Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, troubleshooting, and commissioning control systems for industrial end users and OEM customers. We are seeking a professional who excels in customer interaction, problem solving, and project ownership. The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading projects from concept through programming, commissioning, startup, and final customer acceptance while maintaining strong communication with customers and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle. This position is approximately 60% office-based and 40% field-based.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications for industrial automation projects.

· Perform programming, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.

· Design and implement control system upgrades and retrofits.

· Develop control narratives, functional descriptions, and project documentation.

· Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.

· Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks.

· Lead automation projects from concept through commissioning and customer handover.

· Act as a primary technical contact for customers.

· Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, electricians, panel builders, and customer personnel.

· Provide regular project updates and proactively identify risks and solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

· Minimum 5 years of PLC/HMI programming experience.

· Strong experience with Rockwell Automation platforms.

· Experience with Siemens and/or Schneider Electric systems.

· Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, Profinet, Profibus, and Modbus.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Proven ability to build strong relationships with customers and team members.

· Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish.

· Strong organizational and project management skills.

· Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.

· Legally entitled to work in Canada.
