Full job description

As a Controls Programmer at Osella Technologies you are involved in the development and deployment of a variety of systems utilized on automated assembly equipment. Including but not limited to PLC, HMI, Robotics, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Motors, Drives, etc. Above all else the safe operation of these systems is paramount. Working directly with the controls & mechanical designers, electricians, job builders he or she will ensure the job exceeds our customers’ expectations upon delivery.

· Responsible for Safety first and foremost in every aspect of their job.

· He or she will program PLC (programmable logic controllers) in an efficient and structured manor in keeping with industry standards and customer guidelines.

· Design and program HMI (Human Machine Interface) that is communicative, legible and with ease of use considerations. This will again follow industry standards and customer guidelines.

· Constant skills development is expected of individuals in this position. Osella Technologies will work with the individual to schedule and financially support skill development through a annual budget provided for this purpose.

· Direct involvement in the design and selection of materials used in the equipment as well as oversight of outside resources eg. Controls design/Robot Programmers is required.

· Working with the Program Managers he or she will provide information on the progress of the job that will be used to inform the customer of the equipment progress as well as estimate how the financial performance of the job is tracking.

· From time to time you will be required to travel to customer sites around North America for install and service duties. Overnight requirements will not exceed 20 days total or 5 days consecutively in any calendar year without consultation of the employee. Day trips have no limit however Osella will always work to limit travel thru the use of technologies when applicable.

· You will be asked to supervise junior staff and educate them in all aspects of the position.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are the determined minimum requirements for the position:

· 5 years of direct experience, preferably in automation equipment build.

· Experience with various controls platforms including but not limited to Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron.

· Experience with Fanuc, ABB, Nachi

· Understanding of electrical standards in the province of Ontario and beyond.

· Strong understanding of Pneumatics systems for machine control.

· Strong understanding of motion controls via servo, stepper, motor.

· Strong PC aptitude & skills are required, in particular with Excel, other MS Office product.

· Ability to travel internationally on short notice.

· Experience commissioning machines including, IO Checkout, Ethernet IP device setup, Machine Safety Setup and testing.

· Experience and knowledge of Machine Safety design and requirements. (Robot safeties, operator safeties, experience with programming various safety PLCs, and device such as area scanners.)

· Ability to read Electrical prints and thorough understanding of controls and design principals.

· Knowledge of and experience with manufacturing plant processes and standard controls practices.

· Must have excellent analytical and communications skills and be able to work in a fast-paced, team environment

· Strong emphasis as a team player that thrives in a cooperative team environment and presents themselves in a polished professional manner
