Full job description

We are SLR Consulting (Americas), a 1500+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, the United States, and LATAM. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.

As our new Early Career Environmental Scientist/Engineer, you will play an important role with our Land Quality and Remediation team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Role

This early-career role offers the opportunity to join SLR Consulting (Americas), supporting integrated environmental and sustainability services. You will collaborate with experienced professionals, contribute to impactful project work, and build a strong technical foundation in environmental and sustainability consulting.

Your interest in the environment and applied problem-solving will see you supporting and progressively leading programs across our mining, power, and energy sectors. While your work will include field-based activities such as site assessments, monitoring, and investigation support, you will also play a key role in the interpretation and communication of results including data management, analysis, and technical reporting, with opportunities to contribute to broader technical disciplines including our air quality, geochemistry, hydrology, and hydrogeology teams. Fieldwork is a core component of the position and foundational to developing the technical judgement, site awareness, and confidence required for long-term success in consulting.

No two days are the same in this role. You’ll lead and support a variety of projects across urban and remote locations, working on sites that range in size and complexity. You will gain hands-on experience that builds technical judgement, confidence, and site awareness essential to progressing within SLR.

Your knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our team and will see you involved in the full life cycle of projects as you assist the project manager with budgeting, planning, coordinating, and executing projects, data analysis and reviews, and reporting. At SLR, your demonstrated initiative and can-do attitude will be rewarded with responsibilities and opportunities that will challenge you and provide significant opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting project managers with project planning and coordination, reporting, and tracking schedules and budget.

  • Participating in fieldwork programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water and other environmental media.

  • Assisting with the preparation of a variety of technical reports.

  • Assisting with technical and financial proposal preparation

Working @ SLR

With us, there is no doubt you’ll grow your subject-matter expertise and industry knowledge. We care about investing in our employees for the long-run, and if you ask our team, they’ll tell you that’s just one of the many benefits of working here. We want to be a place where you can experience career growth and satisfaction for many years.

Here’s what else you’ll enjoy as part of our team:

  • Competitive total compensation package including comprehensive benefits, vacation, and a suite of wellness initiatives

  • The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

  • Full-time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related studies.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in contaminated site work including supporting and leading environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), soil and groundwater sampling programs, and remediation programs.

  • Experience with construction environmental monitoring, environmental compliance monitoring, climate accounting or geochemistry would be considered an asset.

  • Comfortable with frequent field work and motivated to build a strong technical foundation through hands-on site experience.

  • Available to work away from home occasionally for up to 2 weeks at a time.

  • Ability to work independently and in small teams, including in remote locations and varied field conditions.

  • Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to subsurface investigations at contaminated sites, and environmental monitoring at construction sites.

  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., A.Sc.T, P.Tech, C.E.T., etc.)

  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites.
