Sous Chef – Red Door Provisions

Location: Ottawa, ON
Job Type: Full-Time

About Us

Red Door Provisions is a busy café, bakery, and brunch restaurant focused on high-quality food, thoughtful hospitality, and a positive team culture. We’re looking for a Sous Chef who is organized, hands-on, and passionate.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced line cook or current sous chef looking to take the next step in a growing business.

What You’ll Do

As Sous Chef, you’ll work closely with the Executive Chef and management team to oversee daily kitchen operations, including:

  • Leading and supporting the kitchen team during service
  • Coaching, training, and developing line cooks and prep staff
  • Ensuring all food meets Red Door’s quality and presentation standards
  • Assisting with ordering, inventory, and food cost control
  • Managing prep lists and production schedules
  • Maintaining food safety, sanitation, and health code compliance
  • Helping with scheduling and labour management
  • Opening and closing the kitchen as required
  • Assisting with menu development, features, and seasonal items
  • Stepping into any station when needed to support the team

  • 2+ years of leadership experience in a professional kitchen
  • Strong line cooking and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead calmly in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • High standards for cleanliness, consistency, and execution
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to mentor others
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
  • Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain)
