Full job description

Company Overview

At Gerry Crepin Cartage Limited, we are a family-owned business with a long-standing presence in Ottawa’s construction and transportation industries. Alongside our civil and material operations, we have built a growing landscape design and construction division focused on delivering high-quality outdoor environments.

Our work combines strong operational capabilities with refined execution—supported by in-house design, material supply, and logistics. We take pride in delivering projects that are not only built efficiently, but finished to a high standard.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Landscape Foreman to lead the execution of high-end residential landscape construction projects, with a strong focus on precision, finishing, and craftsmanship.

This role is suited for someone who understands that the success of a project is defined in the details—alignment, cuts, elevations, and overall presentation—not just production.

You will be responsible for leading a crew, coordinating daily operations, and ensuring that each project meets both design intent and high-end finishing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a crew on high-end landscape construction projects
  • Execute and oversee:
  • Interlock, natural stone, and large-format slab installations
  • Retaining walls, steps, and feature elements
  • Deck construction (wood and composite)
  • Assist with or oversee outdoor structures and water feature installations (pergolas, pavilions, fountains, ponds, etc.)
  • Ensure all work meets tight tolerances and high-end finish standards:
  • Clean lines, consistent joint spacing, accurate elevations
  • Proper transitions between materials and surfaces
  • Coordinate daily site activities including materials, equipment, and crew allocation
  • Operate and oversee the use of equipment (excavators, skid steers, compactors, etc.)
  • Read and interpret drawings and ensure accurate site layout and execution
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, designers, and clients when required
  • Promote and enforce health and safety standards on site

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in landscape construction, with proven experience leading projects or crews on high-end residential work
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Interlock and natural stone installation
  • Retaining walls and steps
  • Deck construction (wood/composite)
  • Experience with outdoor structures and/or water features is a strong asset
  • Familiarity with water feature systems (basins, pumps, and integration within hardscape) is an asset
  • Solid understanding of:
  • Grading, base preparation, and drainage systems
  • Advanced installation methods (including large-format and tight-joint applications)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and translate them accurately on site
  • Experience operating equipment (excavators, skid steers, compactors)
  • Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Professional, reliable, and accountable

What Sets You Apart

  • You care about the final 5% of a job as much as the first 95%
  • You notice and correct misalignment, poor cuts, or inconsistencies
  • You take ownership of your projects and hold your crew to a high standard
  • You are comfortable working in environments where quality expectations are high
  • You bring added value through experience with custom outdoor structures, water features, and detailed finishes

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in hardscape/landscape construction
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Valid G Class driver’s license (clean abstract required)
  • AZ or DZ license is an asset
  • ICPI certification is an asset
  • Physically capable of working in various weather conditions

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation: $38.00 – $45.00 per hour (based on experience)
  • Benefits package available after probation period
  • Opportunity to work on well-designed, high-end residential projects
  • Support from an experienced project management and design team
  • Access to equipment, materials, and internal resources to execute properly
  • A stable, team-oriented environment with opportunities for growth

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
