Full job description

Job Overview
Sip & Learn is a lecture series that brings people together in bars and social spaces for thoughtful, engaging talks led by professors, experts, and strong communicators. Our events are designed for people who want to learn something outside their day-to-day work while enjoying a night out.

We are looking for enthusiastic, organized, and personable Event Hosts to support our lecture nights. This role combines event coordination, audience-facing hosting, and real-time problem solving. You will help manage the flow of the evening, welcome attendees, introduce the speaker, support AV, and handle issues as they come up.

Each Sip & Learn lecture night has three hosts on duty, with responsibilities shared across the team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys live events, feels comfortable in front of people, and can stay calm while keeping the experience polished and engaging.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests and help set the tone for the evening
  • Introduce the speaker and make announcements when needed
  • Support check-in, seating, and audience flow
  • Make sure microphones, projectors, and other AV elements are working properly
  • Troubleshoot issues calmly and quickly during the event
  • Work closely with the other hosts, speaker, and venue staff
  • Support speaker transitions, setup, and wrap-up
  • Help create a thoughtful, engaging, and well-run experience

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A warm, confident, and professional presence
  • Comfort speaking in front of a crowd
  • Ability to think on your feet and solve problems in real time
  • A reliable, proactive, and collaborative attitude
  • Interest in live events, learning, and audience experience
  • Previous experience in events, hospitality, hosting, or customer-facing roles is a plus
  • Extra points if you have experience in acting, improv, stand-up, or another performance-based setting

Job Types: Part-time, Casual, Apprenticeship

Pay: $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 per week

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Work Location: In person
