Grocery Store Manager (Market Manager)
Be Fresh Market | Vancouver, BC
Who We Are
Be Fresh Market and Blush Lane Market are neighbourhood grocery stores dedicated to bringing fresh, high-quality food and exceptional service to the communities we serve across British Columbia and Alberta.
Our stores combine the convenience of everyday shopping with a carefully selected assortment of fresh produce, locally sourced products, specialty grocery items, and wholesome meal solutions.
We’re passionate about helping people make healthier choices while supporting the growers, producers, and suppliers who share our commitment to quality and sustainability. By building strong local partnerships, reducing food waste, and creating welcoming shopping experiences, we’re making a positive impact in the communities we call home.
About the Role
We’re looking for two Grocery Store Managers (Market Managers) to help launch and lead our new Be Fresh Market locations in Vancouver.
As a Market Manager, you’ll oversee all aspects of opening your assigned store, from hiring and training a new team to establishing merchandising, operations, and workflows that create an exceptional customer experience from day one.
The ideal candidate has experience leading a grocery store, café, market, or similar retail environment and brings a positive, energetic, and hands-on approach to leadership. We’re looking for people who are excited to build a welcoming neighbourhood hub centred around great coffee, local groceries, fresh food, and thoughtfully curated products.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the store: Oversee the successful opening and day-to-day operations of a Be Fresh Market location, creating a welcoming, well-run, and community-focused customer experience.
- Build and develop your team: Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.
- Own the opening process: Lead pre-opening activities in collaboration with Company leadership, including store setup, merchandising, inventory, workflow development, systems implementation, and launch planning.
- Drive store performance: Monitor sales, labour, inventory, margins, and operating costs while contributing to budget planning and achieving financial goals.
- Deliver exceptional service: Maintain a visible presence on the sales floor, set high standards for customer service, and lead by example in customer interactions.
- Strengthen store operations: Support the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and best practices that create efficient and scalable store operations.
- Collaborate across the business: Partner with Company leadership and shared service teams, including Marketing, Procurement and Merchandise Management, Finance, HR, and IT, to align store operations with Company standards and strategic priorities.
- Maintain a safe and compliant workplace: Ensure compliance with Company policies, employment standards, health and safety regulations, and other applicable legal requirements.
- Coach and support your team: Manage employee performance, engagement, coaching, and disciplinary processes in collaboration with Company leadership and Human Resources.
- Continuously improve: Identify opportunities to improve operations, strengthen team performance, and contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the business.
What You Bring
- Minimum of three years of leadership or management experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience working in retail, grocery, and/or a café environment.
- Experience working with organic and clean food or within the natural foods industry is an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in business, hospitality, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, team development, and people management skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of customers and team members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- A positive, energetic, and community-minded approach to leadership.
- A passion for local, organic, and sustainable food, beverages, and artisanal products.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
At Be Fresh Market and Blush Lane Market, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing organization that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
We believe our people are our greatest strength. We foster an environment where new ideas are welcomed, contributions are recognized, and professional growth is encouraged.
As part of our team, you’ll help shape the future of community-focused grocery retail while supporting businesses committed to fresh, high-quality food, strong local partnerships, and responsible business practices.
If you’re looking for a hands-on leadership role where you can build a team, shape a new store from the ground up, and become part of the local community, we’d love to hear from you.
