Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Farm Supervisor to oversee daily operations on our agricultural property. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of organic farm management practices, including crop maintenance, irrigation, and the operation of heavy machinery. This role requires hands-on leadership and the ability to work collaboratively with farm staff to ensure the successful cultivation and harvesting of vegetables and blueberries.

Duties

  • Direct and supervise daily farm operations in the greenhouse, fields, and processing areas.
  • Organize work and manage tasks ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain and irrigate crops, ensuring optimal growth conditions are met. This can also include seeding, planting, and weeding.
  • Monitor crop health and implement pest control measures when necessary.
  • Lead harvesting operations.
  • Drive a tractor, 5 ton truck, or other farm equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment and farm machinery for plowing, discing, and rototilling.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and tools. Report or perform basic maintenance as needed.
  • Utilize power tools and hand tools for various farming tasks, including planting, weeding, and harvesting.
  • Manage the scheduling of farm staff to ensure adequate coverage for all tasks. This can also include transporting workers to other farm sites.
  • Train new employees on proper farming techniques, the farm's policies and procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Act as First Aid attendant.
  • Maintain accurate records as required.
  • Other farm related tasks to support staffing or operational requirements.

Experience / Requirements

  • Previous experience in a supervisory role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Fluent spoken and written English. Ability to speak Spanish would be an asset.
  • Some mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot basic machinery issues would be an asset.
  • Ability to do physical labour and heavy lifting (40-50 lbs) on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • First Aid training an asset.
