Salary: $28.00 - $30.00 depending on experience

Job Description/ Experience:

The Surveyor is responsible for conducting detailed field surveys to support the planning, design, and construction of fiber optic infrastructure.

This role involves collecting accurate site information, identifying existing utilities and potential construction challenges, documenting field conditions, and ensuring all required data is captured for engineering and permitting purposes.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct field surveys for proposed fiber optic network installations, upgrades, and maintenance projects.

Perform aerial and underground route assessments for new fiber construction.

Identify existing telecommunications infrastructure, including poles, ducts, pedestals, handholes, cabinets, and splice enclosures.

Measure distances, offsets, elevations, and capture accurate GPS coordinates.

Assess available pathways and determine suitable construction methods (aerial, underground, directional drilling, trenching, etc.).

Record existing utility conflicts and site constraints.

Photograph survey locations and document field conditions.

Locating ducts and conduits with accuracy.

Telecommunications duct proofing with a rodder and beacon.

Verify right-of-way boundaries, easements, and access requirements.

Identify permitting requirements and potential environmental or traffic control considerations.

Communicate with municipalities, utility owners, property owners, and contractors when required.

Complete survey reports and upload field data into GIS or project management systems.

Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with company standards.

Report safety hazards and follow all health and safety procedures while working in the field.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field is considered an asset.

Previous experience conducting telecommunications or utility field surveys preferred.

Experience with fiber optic infrastructure is an asset.

Required Skills

Knowledge of fiber optic outside plant (OSP) infrastructure.

Technical abilities to create maps on computer using PDF editor.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, utility locates, and GIS maps.

Familiarity with aerial and underground fiber construction practices.

Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Strong time management and ability to meet project deadlines.
