About Nunavut Brewing Company

Nunavut Brewing Company is Canada’s northernmost brewery, proudly producing locally crafted beer in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Our brewery, taproom, and event space have become a welcoming community gathering place for residents, visitors, artists, musicians, and beer lovers from near and far.

We are looking for a hands-on, organized, and community-minded Taproom Manager & Operations Coordinator to lead our front-of-house operations and support the day-to-day systems that keep the business running smoothly.

Position Overview

This is a unique role for someone who enjoys people, hospitality, events, organization, and small-business operations. You will oversee the daily operation of the taproom, support staff scheduling and supervision, coordinate events and bookings, assist with inventory and administration, and help maintain a warm, professional, and well-run space for our customers and community partners.

The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between customer-facing service, team leadership, practical problem-solving, and behind-the-scenes operational work. Brewery experience is not required, but strong judgment, reliability, communication skills, and a willingness to take ownership are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Taproom Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day taproom operations, including opening and closing procedures, cleanliness, presentation standards, and customer experience.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment for guests, staff, and community partners.
  • Manage merchandise displays, retail inventory, cash reconciliation, and daily sales reporting.
  • Monitor product availability and coordinate with brewing staff to support inventory planning.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience and encourage repeat visitation.

Staffing & Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise taproom staff.
  • Build staff schedules based on anticipated demand, events, and operational needs.
  • Support onboarding, ongoing training, and clear communication across the team.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
  • Provide practical direction, coaching, and performance feedback to staff.

Events & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate taproom events, private bookings, and community partnerships.
  • Manage event logistics, including staffing, setup, entertainment, food vendors, and promotion.
  • Represent NuBrew professionally within the local community.
  • Support marketing and social media initiatives related to taproom activity, events, and customer engagement.

Operations & Administration

  • Support the owners with practical day-to-day administration, purchasing, records, and operational follow-up.
  • Coordinate supplier orders and track inventory for merchandise, packaging, operating supplies, and taproom needs.
  • Assist with accounts payable, purchasing, and invoice processing.
  • Maintain operational records, documentation, SOPs, checklists, and internal systems.
  • Support regulatory filings, licensing requirements, and compliance documentation as directed.

Compliance & Facility Support

  • Help ensure compliance with liquor, food safety, workplace safety, and internal operating requirements.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance needs, contractor visits, and facility follow-up.
  • Report operational issues, facility concerns, and equipment problems in a timely manner.
  • Keep required records organized, accurate, and up to date.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in hospitality, retail, food service, tourism, or a related field.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with staff scheduling, daily operations, and customer-facing service.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and follow through on details.
  • Valid alcohol service certification, or willingness and ability to obtain it.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older.

Preferred

  • Experience in hospitality management, event planning, inventory control, cash management, or business administration.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping, purchasing, supplier coordination, or administrative systems.
  • Experience working in remote or northern communities.
  • Interest in craft beer, local tourism, events, and community-building.

Success in the Role

Within the first six months, the successful candidate will:

  • Maintain consistent taproom operations and a strong customer experience.
  • Establish reliable staffing, scheduling, and communication systems.
  • Maintain operational organization, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Build positive relationships with customers, staff, community partners, and ownership.
  • Take increasing ownership of administrative and operational responsibilities over time.
