Full job description

ABOUT US

The Tile Shoppe is a leading tile and flooring retailer with 4 locations across Ontario and New Brunswick (Concord, Mississauga, Scarborough, and Moncton). With 60+ employees and a growing footprint, we serve both retail customers and contractors with quality products and exceptional service.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a hands-on Operations Manager who thrives on variety and being in the field. This is NOT a desk job. You'll spend 3 days a week in our stores — coaching managers, ensuring merchandising standards, monitoring performance, and driving operational excellence across all locations.

You'll report directly to the President and work closely with our Store Managers to execute company standards and improve store performance. You will also play a key role in our growth — identifying locations for new stores as we expand.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Store Operations (60% of time)

  • Visit 3 stores weekly — observe operations, identify issues, implement solutions
  • Travel to our Moncton store once a month
  • Conduct operational audits and ensure consistent standards across all locations
  • Monitor and improve merchandising, showroom presentation, and customer experience
  • Track action items from store visits and ensure follow-through
  • Submit weekly store visit reports with observations and recommendations

Store Manager Development (20% of time)

  • Coach and develop Store Managers through regular one-on-one sessions
  • Monitor individual store KPIs and hold managers accountable for results
  • Share best practices across locations
  • Address performance issues proactively and professionally

Market Intelligence & Growth (10% of time)

  • Visit competitors regularly and report on pricing, merchandising, and trends
  • Identify opportunities and threats in the market
  • Identify and evaluate locations for new store openings
  • Recommend actions based on competitive analysis

Business Development (10% of time)

  • Support growth of Big Box Stores partnerships and other B2B channels
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to increase sales and profitability

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Must Have:

  • 5+ years of retail operations experience, preferably multi-location
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously — you thrive on variety, not routine
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills — you develop people, not just manage them
  • Proactive mindset — you see problems before they're reported and bring solutions, not just issues
  • Comfortable being in the field 3 days/week — this is not a desk job
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between GTA locations, plus once a month to Moncton
  • Strong communication skills — you can give feedback that's direct but respectful

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in tile, flooring, building materials, or home improvement retail
  • Bilingual (English + another language)
  • Experience with contractor/trade customer relationships
  • Experience with new store openings or site selection

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

In your first 90 days:

  • You've visited each store multiple times and built relationships with Store Managers
  • You've identified the top 3 operational improvements needed and started implementing them
  • Store Managers see you as a partner, not a threat
  • You're bringing analysis and recommendations to the President, not just problems

In your first year:

  • Consistent merchandising and operational standards across all 4 locations
  • Measurable improvement in store performance metrics
  • Store Managers are developing and taking more ownership
  • You've become the operational backbone of the company

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary starting from $110,000, depending on experience
  • Performance bonus: 20% of base salary on reaching company projections — UNCAPPED above target
  • Additional uncapped bonus tied to profitability improvement
  • Car allowance
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Opportunity to make a real impact in a growing company
