Gordon’s is a new, independent grocery store and café located downtown Collingwood. Position Overview

We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Barista to join Gordon’s. The ideal candidate will have a love for making coffee and latte art, have a friendly demeanor, and a dedication to delivering outstanding customer service. As a Barista at Gordon's, you will play a key role in crafting/serving high-quality espresso beverages, staff training, pouring/serving wine and beer, preparing/assembling smoothies, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and engaging with customers to ensure they have a memorable experience.

Barista Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and tea drinks, including espresso-based specialty beverages.
  • Pour and serve wine and beer.
  • Prepare and serve basic cocktails.
  • Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, serve customers efficiently, answer questions and complaints in a polite and respectful manner and provide helpful recommendations when needed.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all the menu offerings.
  • If in doubt about the patron’s age, check their identification to confirm they meet the legal drinking age.
  • Observe relevant health and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth operations and a positive work environment.
  • Ensure patrons do not leave the bar inebriated. Follow the protocols of Management and Smart Serve.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the café bar, kitchen and dining areas including proper maintenance and cleaning of all equipment (espresso machines, grinders, blenders, etc.).
  • Handle cash and credit transactions efficiently and accurately, following established procedures.
  • Take inventory of supplies and ingredients to ensure bar par levels.
  • Follow the cash out and closing procedures at the end of each shift
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities including cross training with grocery/cash department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a barista is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of coffee brewing techniques, espresso preparation methods and latte art is required.
  • Previous experience as a bartender or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of wines, beers and spirits.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
  • Smart Serve is required.
