ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking competent and dedicated Part-time Medical Laboratory Technologists to join our team as Medical Laboratory Educational Technologist at our North York location.
This is an on-campus role, with a projected start date in October 5, 2026.
JOB PURPOSE
Working with the classroom instructor and in compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory and legal requirements, set up lab procedures and activities, maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, and assist in the instruction of students during laboratory procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIMARY DUTIES
Laboratory Maintenance and Set-up
Prepare testing components, complete all laboratory set-up and take-down for scheduled procedures, and assume full responsibility for managing, maintaining, organizing, and ensuring the availability of all laboratory equipment, supplies, reagents, and resources.
Primary Duties:
- Follow detailed protocols, procedures, and instructions to prepare and implement course laboratory plans, including the set-up and take-down of labs.
- Collaborate with faculty regarding course needs, including supplies, ordering, and scheduled laboratory set-up.
- Maintain routine and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate the appropriate disposal of biohazardous waste and chemicals.
- Store supplies and equipment as applicable.
- Contribute to inventory and disposal processes.
- Perform laboratory wash-up duties.
- Practice appropriate safety, environmental, and infection-control methods.
- Enforce infection-control practices while working with Level II biohazardous materials.
- Maintain laboratory safety equipment.
- Prepare and set up all laboratory procedures before scheduled student laboratory sessions and complete all required take-down following each session.
- Order required laboratory supplies and reagents and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Perform and document all required daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance for laboratory equipment.
- Maintain and support all laboratory disciplines within the MLT program.
Administration
Ensure appropriate action is taken when necessary to the satisfaction of the student, instructor, company, and/or regulatory agencies, in compliance with policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Primary Duties:
- Participate in faculty meetings, orientation, graduation exercises, and other functions as directed.
- Ensure that all educational activities are conducted in a legal and ethical manner.
- Maintain equipment maintenance logs, inventory records, and annual equipment maintenance requirements.
- Maintain and store required laboratory documentation for accreditation purposes.
- Manage safety data sheets in an online database and in hard-copy binders for the program.
- Complete the inventory, accessioning, and tracking of incoming samples into the laboratory.
- Follow good laboratory practices, including maintaining meticulous notes and documentation.
- Develop clear workflows and SOPs and refine existing ones.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate tasks with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance activities, including ordering, receiving, and cataloguing supplies, as well as maintaining consumable inventories.
Instruction
During scheduled laboratory sessions, the Educational Technologist will work alongside the lead MLT instructor as the second member of the instructional team, providing demonstrations, teaching assistance, guidance, supervision, and direct support to students.
Primary Duties:
- Assist students in the laboratory and provide guidance in learning using the procedures and guidelines specified by the competency documents.
- Assist students in the laboratory and provide guidance regarding the safe operation of equipment.
- Work alongside the lead MLT instructor as the second instructor in the laboratory during scheduled laboratory sessions, providing demonstrations, teaching, guidance, and student support.

Qualifications
- A minimum of two to five years of recent clinical experience in a medical laboratory, with preference given to candidates with experience in microbiology, transfusion medicine, histology, chemistry, or hematology.
- Additional educational qualifications are an asset.
- National certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Registration as an MLT in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- A clear understanding of biosafety regulations and infection-control procedures is an asset.
- WHMIS 2015 certification.
Performs all duties inherent in an Educational Technologist/Professional Technical role. Other duties and special projects may be assigned as required.
