Job Description: Medical Communications Writer

Position Overview:

A Medical Communications (MedComms) Writer is responsible for creating and developing scientific and medical content that communicates complex information in a clear and engaging manner. The role involves writing a variety of materials, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, slide presentations, newsletters, and digital content for diverse audiences such as healthcare professionals, patients, and regulatory bodies. The MedComms Writer ensures that all content is accurate, well-researched, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Content Development:

- Write and edit scientific and medical content for a variety of formats, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, slide decks, brochures, newsletters, websites, and social media.

- Translate complex scientific data into clear, concise, and engaging content suitable for the target audience.

- Ensure that all content is scientifically accurate, well-researched, and meets client specifications and regulatory requirements.

2. Research and Analysis:

- Conduct thorough literature searches and review scientific and medical literature to support content development.

- Analyze and interpret clinical data, research findings, and other scientific information to create compelling and informative content.

3. Project Management:

- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medical directors, editors, graphic designers, and project managers, to ensure cohesive and accurate communication materials.

- Maintain clear and regular communication with clients to understand their needs, provide updates, and incorporate feedback.

4. Compliance and Quality Assurance:

- Adhere to industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and company policies in all written materials.

- Ensure all content undergoes rigorous quality checks, including accuracy, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.

5. Client Engagement:

- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their communication needs and providing strategic guidance on content development.

- Participate in client meetings, teleconferences, and presentations as needed.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, or a related field (advanced degree preferred, obtained or pursuing).

- Proven experience in medical writing or medical communications, preferably within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare setting.

- Strong understanding of scientific and medical terminology, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex scientific information.

- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

- Proficiency in literature search and research methodologies.

- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and reference management software

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with digital content creation and familiarity with digital platforms and tools.

- Knowledge of statistical analysis and data interpretation.
