While SWAT specializes in comprehensive spill response and emergency management, preparedness and training, we have also grown a core team of staff focusing on environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation services.

As a small company, SWAT provides a team focused environment, ample opportunity for on-the- job learning and accelerating career opportunities, and highly competitive compensation and benefits packages. We offer our employees the ability to gain experience across Canada, where opportunities arise.

Position Overview

SWAT Consulting Inc. is currently seeking an Intermediate Environmental Consultant whose primary focus will be on data evaluation, interpretation, and technical report writing to support our growing project team. The position can be based out of any of our offices located in Leduc, Calgary, or Grande Prairie, Alberta. We currently work with a hybrid model, with a split of working from home and working from the office. The position is expected to be office-based with a focus on asset retirement and liability management projects but may also include reporting scopes in support of our other business areas. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience in the environmental industry and ideally 2+ years of experience in technical report writing. The role is expected to be filled as a Monday to Friday position but may require occasional overtime to support seasons of higher project workload or deliverable turnaround times.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing technical reports for project work including Phase 1 ESAs, Phase 2 ESAs, Remediation and Reclamation, Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs), and Groundwater Monitoring reports.
  • Analyzing field and laboratory data against regulatory guidelines and developing site-specific remediation plans based on the application of Tier 2 guidelines, including but not limited to the use of the Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST), pathway elimination, guideline modification and site-specific risk assessment (SSRA) tools.
  • Developing and preparing remediation action plans (RAPs), risk management plans (RMPs) reclamation and restoration plans, site-specific liability assessments (SSLAs), and water quality monitoring plans.
  • Completing report submissions within regulator and client reporting systems such as OneStop.
  • Supporting the project managers with various tasks that could include coordination of project work, stakeholder liaison, safety support, and technical support for field crews.
  • Participating in regular safety and workload meetings to work collaboratively with assignment of available resources between the Project Managers, Operations Managers, and the Director of Operations.
  • Assisting the emergency response project team on an as needed basis with technical support and reporting tasks.
  • Mentoring and training junior staff and other intermediate staff across various technical disciplines, as required.
  • Building strong collaborative relationships with SWAT employees and supporting development of SWATs quality control and assurance standards.
  • Working with multiple projects within scope, budget and schedule while ensuring quality on deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Degree or technical diploma in an environmental discipline.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of a professional association (P.Eng., P. Geo., P.Chem., P.Ag, R.TAg, P.Biol, C.E.T., P.Tech. (Eng.), etc.).
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience within the Oil and Gas, or related industry.
  • Understanding of upstream oil and gas regulatory requirements including Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Guidelines, CCME Guidelines, BC CSR standards, and AER Directives 001, 011, 050, 055, 056, and 058.
  • Experience with various assessment, monitoring, and remediation methods for typical oil & gas properties in Western Canada.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and safety leadership skills, and a desire to improve methods and standards for efficient work completion.
  • Critical thinking with a focus on efficient task execution and achievement of project objectives.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple work activities concurrently progressing.
  • Computer and software proficiency is required.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s licence.
  • Must complete and pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
