SPECIAL NEEDS PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER

MARC’S Home Belleville Inc. (MHBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to complement our existing team of caregivers in a unique, family-oriented setting. You will be responsible for providing a continuum of care to ONE individual who has a sunny disposition and loves being involved in all aspects of the neighbourhood and community.

This is a Full TIME position offering:

$23-25 per hour (depending on education and experience)

  • Ranging 20 – 43 hours per week (including call in shifts) averaging 36+/-
  • Successful candidate must be available for variable shifts of 7, 17 or 12 hours, including day, evening, night shifts and every other weekend.

  • Upon successful completion of probationary period, you will be eligible for; paid personal days, car allowance and employee health plan (including health spending account) and group RRSP

THE ROLE:

You will spend lots of time in the community including swimming, assisting with horseback riding, shopping centres, and other activities. Working within a team environment, you will ensure all needs are met and a high quality of life is maintained. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing full support in all personal care routines, daily activities, social and intrapersonal skills and emotional regulation.
  • Implementation of behaviour support plans and behavioural principles including positive reinforcement and extinction.
  • Completion of daily housekeeping tasks including cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping and laundry.
  • Administration of medication within prescribed procedures and maintenance of confidential reports and records.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in either a health care, educational or private setting, supporting individuals who are non-verbal with limited functional communication skills and training in Person Centred Planning and Outcomes.
  • Completion of a Human Services Diploma (or equivalent) from a recognized Community College and a minimum of one year’s experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability and behavioural challenges is essential.
  • Current First Aid/CPR and NVCI certification in Crisis Intervention and Prevention (CPI) preferred.
  • Valid current Ontario driver’s license, proof of acceptable auto insurance, a clean driving record, and a reliable vehicle (not public transit) in which to transport the individual to a variety of external activities is essential;
  • Physically able to facilitate activities of daily living/social activities and ensure individual’s safety;
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Person’s screening.
