Position Summary

OPM Ventures Ltd is expanding its Chemical Group and is seeking an experienced Oilfield Chemical Product Manager / Chemist to lead the development, sourcing, commercialization, and technical support of our growing chemical business.

This role is responsible for developing and improving oilfield chemical products, sourcing raw materials and finished products, managing supplier relationships, supporting sales efforts, creating product costing models, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will help build and scale a full-service chemical division while working closely with management, operations, and customers throughout Western Canada.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Development & Technical Support

  • Develop, formulate, and improve oilfield chemical products.
  • Evaluate and optimize existing product performance.
  • Support field trials and customer applications.
  • Troubleshoot chemical treatment programs.
  • Provide technical recommendations to customers and operations teams.

Chemical Sourcing & Supply Chain

  • Source raw materials and finished products from Canadian, U.S., and international suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing and supply agreements.
  • Develop alternate sourcing strategies to ensure security of supply.
  • Evaluate manufacturers for white-label and private-label opportunities.
  • Monitor market pricing and raw material trends.

Product Portfolio Management

  • Manage product lines including:
  • H₂S Scavengers
  • Demulsifiers
  • Biocides
  • Scale Inhibitors
  • Friction Reducers
  • Paraffin/Wax Control
  • Oxygen Scavengers
  • Methanol Programs
  • Glycols
  • Degreasers and Specialty Chemicals

Commercial & Financial Responsibilities

  • Build product costing models and pricing tools.
  • Develop margin targets and profitability reporting.
  • Create and maintain chemical tracking spreadsheets and forecasting models.
  • Support budgeting and sales forecasting.
  • Analyze product performance and profitability.

Regulatory & Quality

  • Develop and maintain:
  • SDS documentation
  • Product labels
  • Transportation classifications
  • Regulatory compliance documentation
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian regulations.
  • Support customer audits and qualification processes.

Business Development Support

  • Assist sales teams with customer presentations.
  • Participate in customer meetings and field visits.
  • Support RFP and tender submissions.
  • Identify opportunities for new products and market expansion.

QualificationsRequired

  • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in oilfield chemicals.
  • Experience with formulation and product development.
  • Strong understanding of Western Canadian oilfield operations.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience creating costing, forecasting, and inventory models.
  • Strong supplier and vendor management experience.

Preferred

  • Experience with private-label or white-label chemical programs.
  • Existing industry supplier relationships.
  • Experience with chemical manufacturing or blending operations.
  • Knowledge of TDG, WHMIS, and SDS requirements.
  • Technical sales experience.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12 months, the successful candidate will:

  • Establish strategic supplier relationships.
  • Build and implement product costing and pricing systems.
  • Expand the chemical portfolio.
  • Support development of private-label products.
  • Improve margins and supply chain efficiency.
  • Become the primary technical resource for customers and sales teams.
  • Help position our company as a leading independent chemical supplier in Western Canada.

Pay: $92,007.88-$180,263.93 per year
