About the Opportunity

Our client is a junior oil and gas company based in Calgary, Alberta, with active joint venture (JV) agreements across its operated and non-operated properties. Due to a specific project initiative, they are seeking an Intermediate Joint Venture Accountant to join their team on a contract basis for approximately 12-16 weeks.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced JV accountant looking for a focused, short-term engagement with a team, operating in downtown Calgary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review joint venture billings, cash calls, and AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) tracking
  • Work on resolving partner disputes through effective communication
  • Review and interpret joint operating agreements (JOAs) to ensure accurate cost allocation
  • Process and audit operator/non-operator invoices in accordance with JV agreements
  • Liaise with partners, operators, and internal stakeholders to resolve billing inquiries
  • Maintain accurate JV accounting records within the company's accounting system (Qbyte)

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in oil and gas accounting, with a focus on joint venture accounting
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation or in progress considered an asset)
  • Solid understanding of Joint Venture accounting, industry processes, and the oil and gas industry.
  • Proficiency with accounting software commonly used in the Canadian oil and gas industry (i.e. EnergyLink, Qybte)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with internal and external partners
  • Ability to start on short notice and commit to the full project duration
