We’re Hiring Deckhands, Offshore Factory Freezer Vessels

Ocean Choice International is one of Atlantic Canada’s most diversified seafood companies, sustainably producing and marketing a full range of shellfish, groundfish and pelagic species. Our success is driven by our people and our strong connection to the communities where we live and work.

We are currently accepting applications for dynamic, self-motivated personnel, who are interested in a career in the fishing industry for Deckhand positions across our fleet of offshore factory freezer fishing vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, retrieve, and repair fishing trawl gear, including operating winches under the direction of the Second Mate and Bosun.
  • Operate deck equipment safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the vessel deck and associated equipment, including chipping, painting, buffing, and general upkeep.
  • Inspect, maintain, and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in emergency response and occupational health and safety training programs.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and professional work environment while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the delivery, stocking, and storage of groceries, supplies, and vessel provisions.
  • Work a trip-on/trip-off rotation schedule and collaborate with members of the opposite rotation while in port.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Marine Emergency Duties and a Transport Canada Seafarer’s Marine Medical Certificate.
  • Fishing Master’s Classification or Bridge Watch Certificate considered an asset.
  • Factory freezer/trawler experience is an asset.
  • Valid Code of Conduct.
