Locations: Gardens of Peterborough Retirement Residence; Centennial Place (Millbrook, ON); Moira Place (Tweed, ON); Station Place (Havelock, ON)
Status: Full-Time / Part-Time
Shifts: Various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Pay Disclosure: $36.50 – $46.00 per hour

Incentives:

  • Moira Place & Centennial Place: Signing Bonus up to $10,000 (for eligible new hires)
  • Potential eligibility for $25,000 CCPN Grant (via Health Force Ontario)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC) or Assistant Director of Care (ADOC), the Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care in alignment with the Home’s mission and values.

The RN plays a key leadership role by assessing resident needs, developing and implementing Care Plans, delivering hands-on clinical care, and supervising and supporting care staff. The RN also ensures that high-quality, resident-centered care is delivered in accordance with regulatory standards, company policies, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Care

  • Assess residents and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized Care Plans
  • Provide hands-on nursing care, including medication administration and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Monitor and communicate changes in resident condition to physicians and substitute decision-makers
  • Apply restorative care principles and responsive behaviour strategies

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, mentor, and support RPNs, PSWs, and other care staff
  • Participate in scheduling, audits, and policy compliance
  • Support staff training, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Act as Nursing Supervisor and Emergency Response Leader when required

Communication & Teamwork

  • Foster strong communication with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and external care providers
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control practices and workplace safety standards
  • Complete required documentation, including Critical Incident Reports
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, and company policies

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), in good standing (or eligibility)
  • Experience in geriatric, retirement, or long-term care settings preferred
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience considered an asset
  • Knowledge of responsive behaviour programs (e.g., PIECES, GPA) is an asset
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Compassionate, resident-focused approach with sound clinical judgment
