Department: Urgent & Primary Care Centre

Position 1:
Status: Permanent Full-time 1.0 FTE (0.8FTE may also be considered)
Schedule: 35 hours per week

Position 2:

Status: Permanent Part-time 0.8 FTE 1 year contract starting August 2026 (0.6FTE may also be considered)
Schedule: 28 hours per week

Department: Medical Clinic

Position 3:
Status: Permanent Part-time 0.8 FTE (0.6FTE may also be considered)
Schedule: 28 hours per week

Wage: RN ($40.40-$49.37); RN(C) ($48.48-$51.51)

Established in 1969, REACH is a non-profit, community-governed organization with a history of primary care innovation and a commitment to equality and social justice in East Vancouver. We have a multidisciplinary approach to care within our medical, dental, pharmacy, multi-cultural family centre and an Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC).

Summary of Position:
This position is for a Registered Nurse working at the full extent of their scope of practice in a primary care setting with a focus on urgent care. The RN performs a critical role in an interdisciplinary team triaging all patients and directing to appropriate care, whether that is within the REACH UPCC, or elsewhere. There are also opportunities for managing a patients’ presenting issue independently or via protocols or in consultation with other team members such as physicians or nurse practitioners.

The RN will have the required skills to assist other team members in the event of a medical emergency requiring stabilization while awaiting transfer to higher levels of care.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide limited supportive counseling for patients in crisis; referrals to appropriate community resources
  • Document any observations, assessments, diagnostics, interventions, outcomes, communications, along with information about referrals according to our practice procedures and standards using OSCAR EMR.
  • Participate in care conferences with the team, and staff and committee meetings.
  • RN will consult with a doctor at any point in the patient's care when the nurse approaches their limits of scope of practice or individual competence.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of a recognized Registered Nurse education program
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP)
  • Significant nursing experience (minimum five years) with recent and related work in a variety of settings including primary care and/or ER
  • Current CPR-HCP Certification essential.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience working with marginalized populations (mental health and addictions, poverty, vulnerable youth, LGBTQ2I+, and other community members) desirable
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the social determinants of health being the foundation for providing care.
  • Phlebotomy and IV insertion skills or willingness to develop these competencies.
  • Demonstrated skill in provision of evidence based, ethical, culturally safe and appropriate care to all patients
  • Knowledge of community and mental health resources an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers and community.
  • A second language is an asset

REACH will assist any employee or family member who loses their primary medical care as a result of this policy to obtain comparable medical care as soon as possible after the conclusion of the probationary period.
