Position Highlights
The North Coast Transmission Line Project will help shape the future of British Columbia’s north coast. By delivering clean,
reliable power to northern B.C., it will unleash major economic opportunities, support growth in key industries, and attract
billions in private investment in our economy. It will enable development in mining, critical mines, LNG, manufacturing, and
technology – sectors essential to diversifying B.C.’s economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Recognized by
provincial and national leaders as critical infrastructure for Canada’s future, the project is being advanced in partnership with
First Nations and the Province of B.C.. Joining this team means contributing to a transformative initiative that will power B.
C.’s next wave of industrial development and strengthen communities across the province and country.

The Contract Management team within the Contract and Commercial Claims Management Team for North Coast
Transmission (NCT) Project specializes in post-award management of contracts supporting the project. These contracts
include clearing and access, supply (or supply and installation), construction and services contracts. This includes early
involvement and input and support throughout the pre-award process, and then direct management of the contracts from
award through to contract completion.

We’re currently recruiting for one Full-time Regular Contract Manager position located in Prince George for the NCT Project.
Consideration may be given to a Full-time Temporary Contract Manager located at another BC Hydro location, based on
operational requirements.

The Contract Managers have overall accountability for the successful execution of a diverse portfolio of contracts. They
achieve this through the support of multiple Contract Professionals. The Contract Manager leads also fulfills a management
role, leading a team of directly reporting Consultant and Employee Contract Professionals of union and M&P staff.

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of employee and consultant Contract Professionals in the delivery of a portfolio of capital equipment
construction, and services contracts.
  • Provide management, workload allocation and balancing, mentorship, and guidance to the team, including formal
performance reviews, goal setting and career development.
  • Lead or assist in departmental resource planning and recruitment.
  • Lead or Support Initiatives for business process and procedure improvements.
  • Provide consultation and sound advice on BC Hydro’s position with respect to key/complex contract management
opportunities and/or risks including the validity and impact of claims and contract changes.
  • Support Contract Development by working closely with Procurement to help develop supply chain strategies, contracting
plans and draft RFx documents.
  • Develop strategies to ensure preservation of BC Hydro entitlements through supplier relationship management and
effective and timely application of contractual mechanisms.
  • Manage contract risk, claims, contract changes and disputes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to develop claims and contract management skills and knowledge within the
team and department.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve contracts and claim management practices across the business, in
conjunction with the claims management team.
  • Implement and improve internal processes to monitor, analyze and provide reporting to the project stakeholders, on
forecasting contentious claims and liabilities.

What you bring

  • A Degree in relevant discipline such as Engineering, Business, Law, or Finance and 12+ years of progressive contract
management experience related to major construction works. A combination of education, professional training and relevant
experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A record of continuous professional development specific to the requirements of the role.
  • Demonstrated experience being involved in the management of contracts, claims, negotiations and vendor relationships.
  • Previous experience in inclusive leadership, coaching and mentoring is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated competency in claims management and dispute resolution.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communications, negotiating, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analysis and risk assessment skills.
  • Proven abilities in influencing internal and external parties, managing risk, and optimizing costs through innovation.
  • Knowledge and experience with BC Hydro’s Project and Portfolio Management tools (PPM), Primavera P6, SAP, Aconex,
and Unifier applications is an asset.
  • Completion of the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP-PMAC) Designation and /or International Association
of Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) Certification to Associate level is considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification with Project Management Institute (PMI) is considered an asset.
  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain the following requirements in good standing: Driver's License
Type = Class 5.
